The BrainPop video on MLK will be shown to introduce the topic of MLK’s role in the civil rights movement.
After the video is shown we will complete the BrainPop quiz as a class. I will then add on to the short lecture
with additional details on MLK. Students will then be put into groups and will complete a worksheet on civil

rights and MLK for reinforcement. I will then give further instructions on the “I have a dream” project. The
students will be asked to create a small poster board that will already be prepped and provided by me.

They will be asked to write down five dreams that they have for themselves or for the world, along with 5
dreams MLK had. The poster must be decorated and their work will be graded based off of completion and
content. When the students are finished with their final product, they will be asked to quickly present to their
class the dreams they wrote down. After the presentations I will hang each poster in the hallway on display
for others to see.
Reflective Practice:
To extend this project, students may be asked to ask 2 family members what their dreams are and extend the
information on the poster with the dreams of their families. They may also want to take it a step further and
ask peers around their school what their dreams are. With this information the posters will be displayed in the
hallways and other students’ might see themselves featured on the posters as well.
