LITERACY focus standard MATH focus standards

CCSS: RI 1.1 Students will ask and
answer questions about key details in
a text.
Students are taught to answer questions by
borrowing words from the question itself.
Q: According to the text, what do penguins eat?
A: The text says that penguins eat fish and krill.
This week’s theme is Arctic/Tundra/Polar habitats,
and we will learn about penguins.
This week’s focus text is:
Penguins by Anne Schreiber
CCSS: Operations and Algebraic Thinking
1.OA.7 Students will understand the meaning of
the equal sign, and determine if equations involving
addition and subtraction are true or false.
1.OA.8 Students will determine the unknown whole
number in an addition or subtraction equation relating
three whole numbers.
This week we will talk about “balancing” equations
to make both sides the same (equal).
