Nighttime Nighttime
Dust floats through the bars of light The inside of a barn is a sanctuary
The stalls are all bathed in a faint golden glow, Dust floats through the streams of light
While the nighttime pools around the door The stalls are all bathed in a faint golden glow,
While nighttime pools around the door
Inside the barn there is a sanctuary.
Outside the barn I can hear the crickets The inside of a barn is a sanctuary
The howl of a dog Outside the barn, crickets chirp
A train whistle A hound howls
Inside the barn, all I can hear the gentle thrum of A train whistles
a horse’s snort Inside the barn, all I can hear is the gentle thrum of
There is silence a horse’s snort
in a barn There is silence
In nighttime. in a barn
In nighttime.
I groom my horse
A curry comb digging into the coat, The inside of a barn is a sanctuary
Massaging the neck. I groom my horse
I dig my fingers into the crest of his neck A curry comb digging into the coat,
I can feel the smooth rubber of the brushes, Massaging the neck.
and harsh wood of a pitchfork, My fingers bury into the crest of his neck
And the wet, slobber of a horse’s tongue I can feel the smooth rubber of the brushes,
and harsh wood of a pitchfork,
It is an oasis from the world outside. And the wet, slobber of a horse’s tongue
From the humdrum and the bustle.
For inside the barn doors, The inside of a barn is a sanctuary.
There are only two things: It is an oasis from the world outside,
My horse From the humdrum and the bustle.
And I For inside the barn doors,
The inside of a barn is a sanctuary. There are only two things:
My horse
And I
