UPSC-CAPF(ASSISTANT COMMANDANT)-PET

The physical efficiency test is conducted for those candidates who


clear both the papers(paper 1 and paper 2) conducted by UPSC at different centres in India.The
physical efficiency test is popularly known as PET.The physical efficiency test is conducted after
atleast 120 days of written examination and after atleast one month of result declaration of written
part.It means that one has atleast 4 months to prepare for PET if he or she thinks that he has done
well in the written exam and is confident about the result.UPSC can give the permission to any force
to conduct PET and medical tests.For instance,in 2015 and 2016,BSF conducted PET and medical
tests.After declaration of result,physical and medical tests are conducted at different centres.

Dates are fixed for PET and admit cards are send to all
qualified candidates.A list of candidates having their date and venue is also uploaded by the
competent authority(any CAPF force).Total number of candidates called for PET are around 5-6
times more than total vacancies.For instance,in 2016,total vacancies were estimated at 270 and
finally reduced 211 and total candidates called for PET were around 1300.

PET is scheduled for around 10 to 15 days according to candidates


qualified for the same.Around 35 candidates are called for PET at one centre in a day.Commandant
level,DIG level officers come from different forces at the centres to conduct PET as well as medical
test.

DAY 1:- Candicates report to the allotted centres at around 8 am. with sports uniform of their own
choice. They have to fill the details in a booklet given by the staff and then documentation is
done.Candidates have to bring the original and Xerox copies of these documents such as
DAF(DETAILED APPLICATION FORM),10th,12th,graduation passing certificates,category(if any),NCC(if
any) and others related to qualification.After documentation,all are allotted a chest number and
then all have to ready for physical measurements such as height ,weight and chest.

Minimum required physical measurements are as follows:-

PARAMETERS MEN WOMEN

1.HEIGHT 165 cms. 157 cms.

2.CHEST 81cms.(86 cms. Expanded) NA

3.WEIGHT 50 KGS 46KGS.

These documentation and measurements take atleast 1-2 hours and PET starts at
diferrent times depending upon the centres.The most common set of events in PET is as follows:-

1. 100 metres race in 16 seconds(for females 18 seconds)


2. 800 metres race in 3 minutes and 45 seconds (for females 4 minutes and 45 seconds)
3. Long jump 3.5 metres for males and 3.0 metres for females( 3 chances for both male and
females)
4. Shot put (7.26 kgs.) atleast 4.5 metres(for males only)
Out of 35 candidates who are being called for PET,on an average 20 candidates come for PET
and out of 20, on an average 15 candidates are qualified for medical tests.After every
event,there is a gap of about 2-3 minutes depending upon the centre and authorities.After PET
,there are medical tests at the centre on the same day or next day according to the hospital
responses.PET qualified certificates are also issued to the qualified candidates.

SUGGESTIONS:-

1. START RUNNING ATLEAST 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO PET AND REDUCE YOUR WEIGHT
ACCORDING TO REQUIREMENTS.
2. DON’T BE LATE AND BE PUNCTUAL.
3. BRING ALL THE DOCUMENTS BOTH ORIGINAL AND PHOTOSTATED DURING PET.
4. BE OBEDIENT AND FAITHFUL.
5. DON’T BE OVER CONFIDENT.
6. COORDINATE PROPERLY WITH OTHER CANDIDATES AND STAFF MEMBERS.
7. WEIGHT CHECKED ON THAT DAY WILL BE CONSIDERED YOUR WEIGHT FOR FURTHER
MEASUREMENTS.SO ADJUST YOURSELF ACCORDING TO YOU.
8. RUNNING PRACTICE SHOULD HAVE SEQUENTIAL EVENTS AT THE SAME TIME SO THAT ONE
CAN DO ALL EVENTS IN A GO.
9. DON’T BE TALKATIVE AND PERFORM WELL IN PET WITH CONFIDENCE.
10. COME IN PROPER UNIFORM TO HAVE GOOD IMPRESSION.
