Effects of Pesticides on The Environment

Pesticide is a broad term that refers to any device, method, or chemical that kills plants or
animals that compete for humanity's food supply or are otherwise undesirable. Environment is
everything that around us. It can be living or non-living things. It includes physical, chemical and
other natural forces. Living things live in their environment. They constantly interact with it and
change in response to conditions in their environment. In the environment there are interactions
between animals, plants, soil, water, and other living and non-living things.
There are six methods to apply pesticide such as Soil incorporation, Fumigation, Baiting,
Dusting, Fogging and Spraying. The difference among pesticide, fungicide and herbiside are,
fungiside and herbiside are a type of pesticide that is used to specifically target. Herbicides are
used to terminate unwanted plants while fungicides would kill or control fungi that can cause
fungal disease.
Pesticide use raises a number of environmental concerns. Over 98% of sprayed
insecticides and 95% of herbicides reach a destination other than their target species, including
non-target species, air, water and soil. In addition, pesticide use reduces biodiversity, contributes
to pollinator decline, destroys habitat (especially for birds), and threatens endangered species.
Pesticide also has many advantages for us. In an agricultural setting, pesticides are often
necessary for commercial farming to protect valuable crops from being lost to insect damage. In
order for farmers to make a profit, outside of an organic setting, pesticide is often used to prevent
insects from destroying crops, especially produce.
Pesticides are used to manage, repel and, if necessary, kill a range of pests, including
insects, as well as mites, fungi, weeds, slugs and snails, rodents and nematodes. Most pesticides
are intended to serve as plant protection products (also known as crop protection products),
which in general, protect plants from weeds, fungi, or insects.
Fungicide is a biocide chemical compound that inhibits the growth of fungi and fungal
spores as they can cause a lot of harm in agriculture and lead to a critical losses of yield, quality,
and profit of crops. Fungicides are used both in agriculture and to fight fungal infections in
animals. Fungicides are also used to control oomycetes, which are not fungi but use the same
functions as fungi to infect plants. Most fungicides, are effective only as a preventative treatment
and cannot be used to control or kill a pest.

Herbicides also commonly known as weedkillers, are chemical substances used to control
unwanted plants. Selective herbicides control specific weed species, while non-selective
herbicides can be used to clear waste ground, industrial and construction sites. In addition,
herbicides can be targeted, which means they will kill only specific unwanted plants, or they will
kill any and all plants they come in contact with.
