To Kill a Mockingbird Book Review

The book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was published in the 1960’s. though

some of the content is a bit old-fashioned, I did find it to be one of y personal favorites. Some of

the words and slang in the book are very old-fashioned. They may also come across confusing,

or offensive to the readers. My disclaimer is that if you have issues reading about topics such as

segregation, rape, or racism, then do not read this book.

To Kill A Mockingbird takes place in Maycomb County, Alabama, in the 1930’s

depression era. It is in the point of view of young Jean Louise ‘Scout’ Finch. She talks much

about her family: Her elder brother Jeremy ‘Jem’ Finch, her father (Atticus), and the family

servant (Calpurnia). As the years pass lots of events happen, both good and bad.

I believe the most prominent event in the story, is Atticus’s court case. Atticus was

appointed to defend a colored man that was being accused of the rape of a young girl. The

Finch’s get a lot of grief and torment during this time, as for the colored people were not well-

liked. So for Atticus to be defending one, is considered nearly disgraceful to some.

In conclusion, I would rate this book 9/10 stars. Some parts have a lack of description, or

are difficult to understand. However, it was an educational and delightful book in total. The
grade range I would recommend for this book is 8th grade and up. It is a great book for teens,

adults, and older.
