Charles Forsman : The End Of The Fucking World before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would
be worth my time, and all praised The End Of The Fucking World:

the words that come to mind after reading 'TEOTFW'. This graphic novel oozes humanity from its simple, straight-
forward plot. At least, you'll THINK it's simple until you actually consider the narrative on a much deeper level. What
is 'TEOTFW' trying to say? At first, it may appear to just be a modern twist on the tale of the star-crossed lovers
Bonnie Clyde. Yet, what we have here is something more sentimental... more altruistic. This story is a journey for two
broken souls -- teenage runaways whom have no home, no loving family, no real connection to anything but each
other. They're each on a path towards understanding what love is. Yet, they get there via two very different methods.
One realizes that there actually is someone in this world that she can love wholeheartedly and trust. The other doesn't
feel love, or anything else for that matter... right up until a crucial moment when he realizes that he actually knew love
from the start. Along the way, the two young lovers encounter all sorts of horrible, weak and predatory people. Their
encounters test what they know about each other and themselves. In the end, not only will you reconsider your own
understanding of love, but also how far you would go FOR the one you love.I'll be perfectly honest - before reading
'TEOTFW', I had not heard of creator Charles Forsman. That being said, I'm greatly impressed with his work and will
continue to follow his output in the future. Forsman crafted this story with integrity. He has earned my utmost respect
for doing so.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. LayeredBy kathyI have finally read it, after waiting
several months to finally make the purchase. I heard so much about TEOTFW and all the hype yet I really had no idea
what the story was about. It surprised me. Is this a book about a sociopath and his extremely co-dependent girlfriend?
Yes on the surface it certainly is. This is also allegory portraying a teenage love story. What makes a short story great
(including graphic novel form) is when you are finished, you continue to think about it. Wonder about what was really
trying to be said here. Fill in some blanks, look back at it again and discover either "the" meaning or your own
meaning. That is how TEOTFW was for me. On the surface it was creepy and violent and spoke very loudly about a
topic nobody wants to discuss. Underneath, it is a road trip coming of age story about a couple of kids that hate their
lives at home only to discover that out there in the world there is just as much if not more sickness and craziness than
they were trying to escape from.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Simple but hauntingBy Adam
GoldbergThis is a quick read about the somewhat disturbing exploits of a young sociopath and his girlfriend. I found
the art and writing to be simple but quite good. Probably the most noteworthy part for me was that I thought about it
after I breezed through enough to go back and read it again - something I seldom do. In fact I may read it one more
time soon. It seems to be one of those comix that reads differently each time I pick it up. I'd almost say there is
something poetic revealed in the combination of art and story. It's definitely one of my favorite comics this year and I
read a lot of graphic novels. I do think the price could be a touch lower. This seems like a $10 book at most
considering its fairly short and totally in black and white. Still, there's a lot of mediocrity out there and "the end of the
f$?!@ing world" definitely rises out of the pack to be something different.

The first full-length graphic novel by the Ignatz Award-winning up-and-comer.TEotFW follows James and Alyssa,
two teenagers living a seemingly typical teen experience as they face the fear of coming adulthood. Forsman tells their
story through each characters perspective, jumping between points of view with each chapter. But quickly, this
somewhat familiar teenage experience takes a more nihilistic turn as Jamess character exhibits a rapidly forming
sociopathy that threatens both of their futures. He harbors violent fantasies and begins to act on them, while Alyssa
remains as willfully ignorant for as long as she can, blinded by young love. Forsmans story highlights the disdain, fear
and existential search that many teenagers fear, but through a road trip drama that owes as much to Badlands as The
Catcher in the Rye. Forsmans inviting, Charles Schulz-influenced style lends a deadpan quality that underscores the
narratives tension. The End of the Fucking World is certain to be one of the most talked-about graphic novels of 2013.
Forsman is arguably the most acclaimed talent to come out of the Center for Cartoon Studies, a school founded in
2004 by graphic novelist James Sturm and educator Michelle Ollie in White River Junction, VT. Forsman graduated in
2008 and is a two-time Ignatz Award-winner for his self-published minicomic, Snake Oil. The End of the Fucking
World is his first graphic novel. Black white illustrations throughout

From Publishers Weekly"When I was thirteen and a half, I found a cat in the woods. I smashed its body with a stone."
Like a teenage metal head's revenge fantasy world spun out of control, but drawn by a demented Mort Walker, this
debut graphic novel is a haunting odyssey. James is an unfeeling and disturbed youth who tortures animals, sticks his
hand down a garbage disposal, punches his father in the face, and lacks compassion or feeling for anyone else. At 16,
he pretends to fall in love with his classmate Alyssa and convinces her to split town with him after he steals his dad's
car. They break into a house in the suburbs and start playing a clumsy version of house, unable to escape the
awkwardness of their age. They also make a disturbing discovery about the homeowner. When he returns, the pair's
fake home life comes crashing down. This is a visceral comic, full of deeply unsettling violent images and actions,
though Forsman's minimalist style helps keep the focus on the impact of the events, not the horror itself. This is not a
redemption story, and there are no good people in it. Forsman has crafted a comic that captures youth, frustration, and
that deep, dark feeling that maybe things won't get better when you get older. (Aug.)About the AuthorCharles
