Thank you Chair,

The Excellency Chair, Distinguish Delegates,
Ladies and Gentlemen
God Morn

My Name is Nikki Avalokitesvari, I represent The Kingdom of Norway here in UNEP. Today I’m
here to discuss one of the most essential issues for the sustainable nature of our planet, which is
managing the harmful Substances and Hazardous waste.
Do you believe that we can live on the earth with Zero Harmful Substances and Hazardous waste?
We peoples of Norway Believe that it is possible.
Hazardous waste which contain harmful substances can spread and accumulate in the environment
via leachate of contaminated water from landfills, or via emission from the flue gases, ash or even
lag from incineration plants. Therefore the hazardous waste must be collected and treated in a
proper manner. Norway Believe that we have to hold hands together to decrease and even avoiding
the spread of harmful substance and also hazardous waste.
Norway have already wholeheartedly managing its hazardous waste, by 2010 a total of 1.2 million
tonnes of hazardous waste handled according to approved treatment. According to Statistic
Norway, by 2014 the amount of hazardous waste which handled in compliance with approved
treatment reach 1.4 million tonnes.

Moreover, since 1999 Norway has already set an action plan for hazardous substance which consist
of three main strategies, namely:

1. Elimination of the most dangerous substances

2. Reduction of Risk

3. Better Information

The evaluation of these three main strategies are based on ten measures to deal with substances
that may be hazardous to health and the environment. This ten measures include the way to
eliminate the dangerous substances, the way to reduce the risk, and the way to improve the
provision of information.

Norway believe that through this action plan, we can manage the harmful substance and hazardous
waste properly.
