9. SUMMARY

The present study was conducted to assess the Pharmaceutical standardization

of Mugdharasa and its antimicrobial activity. The formulation is prepared according to
classical text Rasatarangini and it is mainly indicated for the treatment of Balatisara,
mandagni, kamala, vamana, and kantashalooka rogas.etc.
For the study raw materials like Grahya Khatika ,Hingula,Sudha,Saindhava
collected from Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic Pharmacy by observing grahya laxanas.
Herbal drugs like Nimbuka, Lashuna are collected from market, and all the collected
raw materials get authenticated from experts in the subjects of Geology, Rasashastra
& Dravyaguna.
For the preparation of Mugdharasa I and II the steps followed are bhavana
to the Hingula with nimbuka swarasa.Next bhavita Hingula is placed in assembled
vidhyadhara yantra and is subjected to tivragni to extract Parada from it. Then
collected S.Parada is subjected to further shodhana and the method followed is
samanya shodhana vidhi of Parada. Parada shodhana is done with Sudha churna,
nisthusha Lashuna kalka and saindhava. Khatika shodhana is done with jala. Then
Mugdharasa is prepared by taking one part of shodhita H. Parada and two parts of
shodhita Khatika.
The physico-chemical analysis were carried to evaluate the qualitative and
quantitative data. Organoleptic changes are observed and noted in each step during the
preparation of Mugdharasa. Qualitative analysis like LOD,Ash value,Water soluble
ash, Acid insoluble ash, Specific gravity, pH, Solubility test are carried for Grahya
Khatika, Shodhita Khatika and Mugdharasa. Quantitative analysis of Grahya Khatika
is carried before and after shodhana to rule out CaCO3% and traces, and raw Hingula,
H.Parada, Shodhita Parada to rule out Hg% and Mugdharasa to rule out Hg% and
CaCO3% and analysis of sudha to rule out CaCO3% and traces.
Antimicrobial study of Mugdharasa is carried on both gram positive
and gram -negative organisms in different concentrations by Agar disc diffusion
method compared with standard drug, and Minimal inhibitory concentration method
for the more accuracy of the study.
After the study it is revealed that the prepared standard drug Mugdharasa
shows sensitivity on both gram-ve and gram + ve micro-organisms by both Agar
disc diffusion and MIC method in different concentrations. If we see actual dose of

Mugdharasa i.e ½-2 ½ ratti (62mg-312mg) – Prepared Mugdharasa shows 100%

bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect on both gram + ve & gram – ve organisms
responsible for diarrhea and dysentery of various types.so Mugdharasa I is observed
more effective which is prepared from H.Parada as compared to Mugdharasa II which
is prepared from shodhit Parada.
