i. Given a bell ringer, the student will be able to activate prior knowledge from last
week.
ii. Given the word jar warm up, the student will be able to self-assess on how well
they know their countries and capitals.
iii. As a result of this lesson, the student will be able to gain more
knowledge about Queen Elizabeth II then what the student might already know.

a. Bell Ringer:
i. Who is Queen II and what is her role?
b. Word Jar Warm up:
i. The countries and capitals may vary from period to period.
c. Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the Monarchy.
i. Monarchy?? A monarchy is a form of government in which a group,
generally a family representing a dynasty, embodies the country's national
identity.
ii. She is a symbol of Britain's past and its customs.
iii. The country served as one of the first models of a modern
democracy.
d. Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch since 2015.

IV. Implementation
a. Introduction:
i. As the students enter the room have them answer the daily bell ringer.
Today the bell ringer today is:
1. Who is Queen Elizabeth II and what is her role?
a. The head of the Monarchy
b. She is a symbol of Britain's past and its customs.
i. She is just the face of Great Britain, she does not
make laws.
c. *Other facts the students share about her*
Once the Bell Ringer is finished, have the students put away
their notebooks and bring out their white boards.
2. Word Jar Warm Up:
a. Have three to four students pick out the slips of paper and
they will tell me to either say the countries or the capitals.
b. Once I say the capital or country out loud, the student will
right down the answer and hold up the white board.
c. We will complete the process three to four times.
d. Once the warm up activity is completed, have the students
bring out their notes from yesterday.

b. Development
i. After the Word Jar Warm up is completed, remind the students that there
is a quiz tomorrow on the countries and capitals, if the there is no school
tomorrow, the quiz WILL BE THURSDAY. We cannot keep pushing it
back. Afterwards focus the students on what they will be learning today,
which will be about Queen Elizabeth II.
ii. Have the students pull out their PowerPoint notes on Great Britain.
1. Explain that we will be looking at Queen Elizabeth II and who she
is today and have them highlight or write down what is in bold.
2. Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the Monarchy.

3. After the video talk about how she was in and out of the spotlight
ever since she was young, and now she is the monarch of Great
Britain and she lives in Buckingham Palace, and now you can
introduce Buckingham Palace.
4. Buckingham Palace:
a. This is the palace where Queen Elizabeth II resides.
b. Buckingham Palace is located in the city of Westminster
in London.
c. The palace is composed of 775 rooms including:

iii. After going over the notes for today, explain to the students that
the countries and capitals quiz is tomorrow, and if we are not in school
tomorrow, the quiz will be Thursday, the day we return from school.
1. For the remainder of the class, the students will study silently for
several minutes and depending on the time, you can allow them to
study with a partner until the end of the period.
c. Closure:
i. I will pass out notecards to the students and they will have to write down
five countries and capitals that they know without looking at their notes.
They will hand those in to me before they leave for the day.

d. Accommodations/Differentiation Plan
i. Period 3: JD, LH, LC, SG, QO – All have the same paraprofessional with
them to help assist throughout the period.
ii. Period 4: SP, GL, BG, LB, BM – All have the same paraprofessional with
them to help assist throughout the period.
iii. Period 5: EM, CS, AW – All have the same paraprofessional with
them to help assist throughout the period.
iv. Period 8: DR – has a paraprofessional with him throughout the
period.

V. Assessment of Students
a. Formative:
i. Having the students answer the Bell Ringer will allow me to see if they
are understanding why so many people visit the Tower of London. This
question will be on the test.
ii. Having a Word Jar will allow me to see if the students are studying their
countries and capitals.
iii. Handing in a notecard with 5 countries and their capitals will help
me assess how I think the students will do on the quiz for tomorrow.
b. Summative:
i. There will be a paper/pencil test at the end of the Unit.
