Re: Public Relation and Communication Specialist

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this application letter in response to the vacancy announcement at Africa Center of Excellence for
Water Management (ACEWM) for the post of a Public Relation and Communication Specialist announced on
23-Apr. 202at www.ethiojobs.net at based in Addis Ababa, I am interested to carry out any the roles &
responsibilities of the job holder and I would be grateful if the organization could offer me the job because my
qualifications and experience is quite a good fit for the position.

Qualifications & Experiences: My name is Mekonnen Yibrah with BA degree in English and Literature and an
MA in TEFL both from Haramaya University (HU) with a full range of experiences in communications and public
outreach positions. Currently, I am working as a Communication and Project Officer for the Union of Ethiopian
Women and Children Associations (UEWCA. At the moment, I am serving as a communication officer and in the
meantime, I managing gender focused projects: (a) Strengthened Women Networks Greater Impact project, (b)
Women’s Voice Leadership, (c) Gender Responsive Budgeting for Equitable Service Delivery; and (d) Contribute
to Prevent GBV and Response in Tigray and Oromia projects. As a communication and project officer, I am
responsible for almost all the specific responsibilities stated in the vacancy announcement such as gathering stories
and documenting field reports, writing success stories and training proceedings, organizing events, planning,
implementation, and documentation, agenda development, banner printing, etc, writing newsletters and factsheets
for campaigning, advocacy, and policy influencing. My experience working with New Media Advocacy Program
(NMAP) in collaboration with Fetih Activity at the USAID, is also best fit for this position. Previously, I was
working as a Senior Communications and Editor at Izu and Taju Modern Insurance Consultants; HU as communication
officer and Admin Assistant (Nov 2013 to Nov. 2014); British Council Peacekeeping English Project (2011-
2019) as a lecturer; lecturer and researcher positions at Dire Dawa University (2014 to 2019). Totally, I have
worked for 16+ years in communications, advocacy, training, admin, and teaching positions. As part of
strengthening my career duties, I have taken several professional trainings that have direct relationship with my
qualification and career paths.

With my research and publication, communication, campaigning, advocacy and influencing, development, and
project management skills and experiences, I am quite confident that I would fulfill the expectations of ACEWM
and contribute to the improvement of the organization’s working platforms in promoting its target objectives in
striving to the implementation of the Public Relation and Communication Specialist needs of ACEWM.

Finally, I have gathered information on the activities undertaken by ACEWM and have come to strongly believe in
the cause, so I hereby submitted my application to join the department as a Public Relation and Communication
Specialist focal person who will be responsible to handle and ensure robust project management needs and other
activities of the organization.
