Detailed Lesson Plan in MAPEH 8

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. discuss the Ati-atihan;
b. appreciate the importance of tradition in Aklan by sharing knowledge about
the festival;
c. perform the simple movements of Ati-atihan

There are famous festivals in the


Philippines. But now we focus in
festival in Aklan which is Ati-
atihan.

What is Ati-atihan? Ma’am I think it is the old tradition.

Another? Ma’am I think Ati-atihan means Atis

Ati-atihan means “to be like Atis”
or “to make believe Atis”

Ati-atihan is the old tradition


where the indigenous Ati people
honors the Infant Jesus Sto.Niño.

The Ati-atihan festival is known as


the “Oldest and Mother of all
festivals in the Philippines.

Now, when and where does Ati- Ma’am they celebrate Ati-atihan

They celebrate Ati-atihan festival
every 3rd Sunday of January. In the
town of Kalibo Philippines in the
Island of Panay originally came
from Batan, Aklan then adopted
later by some neighboring towns.

Ati-atihan movement is easy to


dance. It is only single-forward,
step-tap sequence and nothing
more.

patroness.

That’s right!
The word “Sadsad” in the local
dialect means dance. The Sadsad is
held in honor of the patroness.

But during Ati-atihan festival it is


also means a time for everyone to
group together and battle it out on
the street. It I a tradition for
friends, families and organizations
to parade in their colorful costumes
and mightiest band.

What is Paepak?

Paepak/Payapak/Palapak is an age-
old tradition where the image of
Sto.Niño de Kalibo is rubbed on
the devotees while whispering
prayers of healing. It is also called
“Pahilot”.
