Okay class our topic this morning is about
Lantern Festivals of Thailand.
Class, what is the country that celebrated the Sky
Lantern of Thailand?
Also in China, Taiwan, and other neighbor
countries.
Yes, and this event is about the launching of
lanterns which are actually small hot air balloons.
What is the purpose of releasing of the Sky
Lantern?
Each release of a sky lantern is a petition, small
prayer, or good wishes of the person who released
the lantern.
What event to be held this festival?
This event is held on the full moon of the 12th month
in the traditional Thai lunar calendar.
So, what are the meanings of releasing the sky
lanterns? It sends a person’s bad luck and misfortune away
into the air.

before the fire goes out.

People say a short prayer before launching the
lantern.
And sometimes, they will also write their
address in the lanterns then anyone who finds the
lantern can then claim money from the sender. In this
way, the good fortune is shared.

lanterns are symbols of problems and worries floating
away.
And why is “Pra Ged Kaew Ju La Mannee” is
part of the meaning of the releasing of the lantern?

in heaven in which the Buddha’s hair is kept.

Khom Fai usually held on a full moon on the 2nd
month of the Lanna lunar calendar.
