1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose
Modify to read:
The requirements in this engineering specification cover the application,
inspection, and testing of air compressors and auxiliaries. The intended
application range for this practice is an inlet flow rate of 2,000 to 34,000 m3/hr
(1,200 to 20,000 cfm) at a discharge pressure up to 10 bar G (150 psig). This
specification is not applicable to machines that develop a pressure rise less than
0.35 bar G (5,0 psig), which are classified as fans or blowers.
Since PDVSA has decided to adopt the PIP (Process Industry Practices)
document: RESC001 “Specification for Integrally Geared Centrifugal Air
Compressor Packages” as an integral part of the Engineering Design Manual
(MID), the requirements in this document are additions or modifications to the
RESC001 and the section/paragraph numbers and the associated headings used
in this document correspond to the ones used in RESC001.

4.2 Modify to read: All gears and rotating components shall have a minimum design life
of 20 years.

5 AIR COMPRESSOR
5.1 Casings (same as RESC001).

5.2 Impellers
Modify to read: Impellers shall be made in accordance with material specification
indicated on data sheets (see Table E–1, API–672–96).

5.3 Gears (same as RESC001)

5.4 Bearings
5.4.5 Modify to read: As indicated in API 672–96, paragraph 2.2.8.3.5.

5.5 Shaft Seals

5.5.2 Modify to read: Pinion shaft seals shall be labyrinth type.

5.6 Provisions for Vibration Monitoring

5.6.1 Modify to read: Each pinion shaft shall have a dual vibration probe per impeller.
5.6.2 Delete

5.7 Dynamics (same as RESC001).

5.8.2 Inlet Air Filter

5.8.2.d Modify to read: Filter shall be designed to withstand compressor surge.

Comment 1: Interconnecting piping between the inlet filter and the compressor will
be provided by the purchaser. Interconnecting piping is normally corrosion
resistant (stainless steel), to avoid ingestion of rust into the compressor, and is
designed to withstand compressor surge.
Comment 2: If not included in the purchase order, the purchaser shall specify and
provide a conical filter (strainer) to avoid damage to the compressor.

14 BWG (Carbon Steel) or 16 BWG (Admiralty).

8.1.4.c Modify to read: Maximum water pressure drop of 0.67 bar (10 psi).

15.1 Proposal
15.1.i Modify to read: Priced list of spare parts for start–up and 2 years of normal
operation.

15.2 Contract
Modify to read: Vendor shall submit at least three data books with the following
data and drawings after the order is placed.
15.2.d Modify tor read : List of all purchaser connections showing size, type, rating,
facing, identification and materials certificates.

15.2.g Modify to read: Drawing of control panel internal layout and wiring diagrams.

15.2.i Modify to read: Specific cross–sectional drawing with parts list (original part
number).

15.2.n Same as 15.1.i.

15.2.t Add: “U” form to cooler shells in accordance to ASME, Section VIII, Division 1.
