Checklist to solve site problems

Whenever you hear any kind of problem that has happened on site, please follow below simple
points for rightly addressing the problem.

a) Meet the concerned person knowing the issue and have a brief understanding upon the

b) History of commissioning of the plant and how long the problem has occurred and any steps
taken to resolve the matter.

c) Take the P&ID, all design sheets, log sheets, latest email communications regarding the issues,
findings if any, latest raw water analysis report, SDI reports, any other test reports.

d) Please get the contact no of the site engineer who is looking after this site, who is aware of this
issue and who is available at the site.

e) Please get the name of the agency that has done the water analysis, i.e either from a private lab
or client’s lab etc.

f) Understand the scheme from P&ID and go through the raw water analysis taken and other test
taken at the sites and observe whether they are correct or not i.e. whether they are valid data or
just they have filled the log sheet for the sake of feeling.

h) Go through the email communications and mark your important observations on it which are
more or less related to the issue.

i) Analyze the log sheets. Find it out whether the log sheets are correct or with errors. This requires
patience and minute observation. Use common sense rather than technical mind at first instance,
have patience and observe minutely each and every parameter.

j) List down your observations and questions on a pad or a diary. Clear the questions with the site
person who is aware of the issue.

k) Make a comparison table between what is the design and what is actual data.

l) Run the Rosa projections if Ro is there as per actual temperature and water parameters. Note
down important parameters of process which are actual parameters like FIow, Pressures at different
points, temperature, all transmitters reading etc.

m) Check whether the transmitters involved are working and calibrated at site. Check whether the
test methods are correct or incorrect.

n) List out possible reasons that have resulted into the issue.

o) Make a detail site issue file for ready reference.

p) Check the actual equipment status at site. Working or not working, pump model no, pump curves,
resin volumes actual, vessels diameter, indicators and transmitters working or not, online or
bypassed, lengths and heights of interconnecting piping

q) Get the process parameters reading across each and every equipment i.e. parameters at inlet and
outlet at every equipment.

r) List out the observations and proposed solutions and the amount of risk, cost and time involved in
applying that solution.
