ABSTRACT

Concrete is one of the most utilized material in the world material in the world. There
have been many research conducted in order to enhance various concrete properties. This
research supports the use of volcanic ash and magnetic water in concrete mix that could offer
reduction in environmental hazard and offer economic solutions to engineering problems.

The researchers intends to investigate the performance of volcanic ash as a partial

replacement for fine aggregates while utilizing magnetic water in the process of mixing and
curing the cylinder concrete samples and to find out its performance in issues relating to
compressive strength and tensile strength. Comprehensive experimental investigations was
conducted to assess the effect of magnetic water to the volcanic ash on concrete’s compressive
strength and split tensile strength. The experimental research consisted of testing several
cylindrical samples with different percentage of volcanic ash as 15%, 25%, and 35% containing
magnetic water and tap water. Laboratory tests for the raw ingredients such as particle size
analysis, absorption, bulk density, and specific gravity was carried out. The researchers also
conducted tests for the physical properties of treated water to verify if the curing period is
enough for it to be considered as a magnetic structured water. The tests conducted are pH level
test, density, surface tension, and electric conductivity.

Statistical analysis was done using Paired T-test in Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences (SPSS). The P value resulted to 4.2044E-10 which is less than 0.5, indicating that
magnetic water and volcanic ash have a great level of significance to the Compressive and Split
Tensile Strength of concrete samples.
