This is a popular older song with lots of common slang. Here are the explanations:
Redneck Woman
Well, I ain't never been Barbie doll type (I don't look like a Barbie doll)
No, I can't swig that sweet champagne, I'd rather drink beer all night (I can't swig... = I can't drink much of...)
In a tavern or in a honky tonk or on a four-wheel drive tailgate (Honky tonk = is redneck slang for a bar, very
informal place, people typically wear boots and jeans.)
I've got posters on my wall of Skynyrd, Kid and Strait
Some people look down on me, but I don't give a rip (Look down on me = think they are better than me, I don't
give a rip = I don't care.)
I'll stand barefooted in my own front yard with a baby on my hip (Barefoot and pregnant or with a baby is
considered trashy or lowclass. She is saying she is proud of her class status.)
'Cause I'm a redneck woman, I ain't no high class broad (high class broad = upper class woman, "broad" is a
rude word for woman)
I'm just a product of my raising, I say: Hey y'all and Yee-haw (Y'all = ustedes, Yeehaw! is something we yell
like Domicans yell Eso! and Greeks yell Opa!)
And I keep my Christmas lights on, on my front porch all year long (X-mas lights all year shows low class and
laziness. In the US it is stereotypical of Mexicans.)
And I know all the words to every Charlie Daniels' song (Charlie Daniels is a famous older country music
singer. He is in the video on the sofa.)
So here's to all my sisters out there keeping it country (sisters = other women like her, "keeping it country" =
living the same lifestyle)
Let me get a big 'Hell yeah' from the redneck girls like me, hell yeah ("Hell yeah" is an enthusiastic way to
saying, "Yes")
Well, you might think I'm trashy, a little too hardcore (Trashy = low class, Hardcore = excessive)
But in my neck of the woods I'm just the girl next door ("neck of the woods" = my community, "The girl next
door" = the average girl)
In America, there is subgroup of people who are called "white trash" or possibly "trailer trash" (these
can be any color) that often live in trailers or mobile homes and typically don't take care of their
property or care too much about appearance (but often their vehicles are awesome, but not always).
These folks are often rednecks, but rednecks are a much larger group. (There is another similar
subgroup called "hillbillies" that live in the Appalachian or Smokey Mountains.)
"Rednecks" are people who traditionally make their living from the land--farmers, ranchers, and people
who work out in the sun (getting deep color on the back of the neck). Anytime you eat food from the
US, it was touched by rednecks. This song is a bit of a parody or comedy, but not completely. I can
identify with almost everything in this song as it being about my own lifestyle. It was hugely popular a
few years ago because there are a lot of us redneck women living across this great country. (When you
read this to yourself, imagine my accent saying it.)
The explanation of "honky tonk". Don't confuse this with "honky". A "honky" is a white person and is
very rude.
Other racial slurs :
nigger = black, usually very low class or "ghetto"
wetback = latino immigrant (refers to swimming across the Rio Grand river)
chink = an Asian
towel head = a Muslim. (Refers to the turban)
Dots = Someone from India (Hindu) (refers to the dot worn on the forehead)
Sand nigger = Middle Eastern person
Beaner = Mexicans
Polock = someone from Poland
Dago = an Italian
All these terms should be recognized but never used. There are many, many more, but I don't use them
and I can't even begin to know them all. Usage of these words indicates the user is of low
economic/educational status.
