QUIZ 1
WHY ARE TESTS IMPORTANT IN YOUR TEACHING ?

First, tests are important tools that determine the strengths and weaknesses of students. An
effective example is, before the beginning of the lesson, the teacher gives the student a test,
helps the teacher understand the student's learning, has a realistic basis for evaluating the
result, detects the shortcomings in knowledge and skills to correct, supplement. It also
helps teacher to apply suitable methods to teach students like pair work, group work. It
contributes to enhancing the student's knowledge. Moreover, through assessment, students
also assert their abilities.

Second, the tests are used as a way to determine who will receive the award and
recognition. The tests are used to assess the student's academic level, grade level, and
academic achievement. At the end of the teaching period - such as the end of the course,
the program, or the academic year.

Third, the tests are used to educate the student's ideas, ethics and quality. It creates in
students confidence, determination to achieve academic results, honesty, collective spirit, it
helps each other in learning.

Fourth, testing student achievement has a great influence on student development. Help
children build habits, learning skills, and be aware of problems that arise precisely and
urgently, present answers, know how to apply learned knowledge to get an idea, new and
practical activities.
In summary, with the above comments, I realize that testing reviews is really important.

QUIZ 2
HOW IS TEST THEORETICAL DESIGNING DIFFERENT FROM
YOUR PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES?
When I learned about the test theoretical designing, I found that the design was well-
structured, very good and could help my students improve and improve their level. But in
fact, when I applied for my students, I couldnot fully apply what was theoretical design.
In theory, the design of the test is a new test that students have not learned and yet do. If
so, my students really cannot do it.So, in fact, the test is taken from the content that
students have been learning and doing before.
In addition, according to the theory, students are considered the center of the class, so
students are fully capable of completing the test. Actually, if the test is a bit different
from the textbook, students cannot do and will fail the exam.
The theoretical tests are usually based on common standards, but actual testing is due to
the condition of each class, each region. Therefore, the exam should be sufficiently
moderate to ensure that all students can do and pass the exam.

QUIZ 1

WHY DO YOU GIVE YOUR STUDENTS TESTS?

In my opinion, it’s extremely important to give my students tests. In my work I prefer to

use an informal approach to evaluating the progress of my students. As I work in a school
environment, there are no end of term tests or exams which have to be done, so accessing
the progress of each student is carried out almost routinely at every lesson. I feel it is
necessary to do this so that I can adapt my lessons to specific problem areas as they occur.

Initially, every new student I take on goes through a diagnostic level test and assessment to
give me a clear understanding of whether they actually do know any English. I find it is
important to test all students initially, while those who say they have no English language
skills can sometimes be proven to know more than they might believe.

The most fundamental reason to give students a test is to ascertain whether they’ve learnt
what I wanted them to learn. The connection between my teaching and testing is a critical
one that, if properly understood, can lead to a substantial increase in instructional
effectiveness. I not only accept the idea that testing can help teaching but also to act on that
idea. I will teach better and my students will learn more. So using tests to drive studying
and learning is also an appropriate purpose for testing. There are additional legitimate
reasons to assess students, but they are all subsequent to, and subordinate to, those two.

Therefore, educational measurement is, at bottom, an inference- making enterprise in

which I formally collect overt, test-based evidence from students to arrive at what we hope
are accurate inferences about students’ status with respect to convert, educationally
important variables such as listening, speaking, reading and writing ability, knowledge of
history, ability to solve problems, interest in a foreign language and so on.

QUIZ 2

HOW IS THEORICAL TEST DESIGNING DIFFERENT FROM YOUR

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES?

In my opinion, the test designing is quite different from my practical experiences. In

theory, the exam is original that students haven’t learnt and done yet. But in fact, the test is
taken from the materials that students have learnt and done it before.

In theory, students are considered as a center of the classroom with creative thinking and
problem solving whereas in real, if the test deviated slightly from textbook content,
students could not do and they usually get lower scores.

The test in theoretical has international standards, but the actual test is appropriate for the
students of each class, therefore fair is sometimes not guaranteed. Students are not
consistent in terms of level, so it is difficult to apply a general test for all levels.

In addition, theoretical tests require students learn a lot to master the knowledge but
students actually cope with exams than to learn for themselves. Moreover, my school
always runs to pursuit for a higher achievement obsession year by year. Quizzes should be
given to the rest of the review and should be fine before the test, sometimes the test is
easier that all students can do. No students have to stay in class and practice in the summer.

Listen and look. There is one example.
Girl: There are a lot of people in the market today!
Man: Yes, that’s because the food is cheaper here.
Girl: Are you going to buy something?
Man: Perhaps. Look, there’s David!
Girl: Where?
Man: There. He’s wearing a blue jacket. He’s buying some onions, I think.
Can you see the line? This is an example. Now you listen and draw lines.
[pause]
Man: Where’s Emma? She’s usually here on Saturdays.
Girl: She’s got a red car, hasn’t she?
Man: Yes. Why?
Girl: I can see her. She’s standing by it. Look!
[pause]
Girl: And there’s Michael!
Man: Oh! I don’t know him. Who is he?
Girl: He’s standing next to that tree.
Man: Oh. Is he the policeman?
Girl: No. He’s a boy in my class. The policeman is his dad.
[pause]
Man: And do you remember your dad’s friend, Paul? He’s here, too.
Girl: No. Which one is he?
Man: He works here in the market. He sells fruit! Look, there he is.
Girl: Is he the man with the beard?
Man: That’s right.
[pause]
Man: Look, there’s Daisy.
Girl: Is that the girl in the red skirt?
Man: No, the girl with the dog. She’s wearing jeans.
Girl: Oh, I know her. She came to my party last year.
[pause]
Girl: And look. Is that your friend Sally in the street, too?

14
Man: Where? I haven’t seen her for a long time.
Girl: Look. She’s picking up the apples. They’re fallen out of her bag.
Man: Oh, yes. Let’s go and help her.
[pause]
PART 2
Listen and write. There is one example.
Boy: Mum, can we have a party for Dad’s birthday?
Woman: Oh, yes… that will be nice.
Boy: But it must be a secret.
Woman: All right. But when shall we have it? It’s his birthday on Tuesday, but that isn’t a
good day for a party.
Boy: How about Sunday?
Woman: OK.
[pause]
Boy: Can we have the party in the evening.
Woman: The afternoon will be later, peter, because you have to go to school on Monday.
Boy: All right. What time can we have the party, then?
Woman: Half past three. I think.
Boy: OK. How many people can come? Twenty?
Woman: Not that many. Just the family and a few of Dad’s friends. I’ll make enough food
for twelve people.
Boy: Can you make a big, square cake? And it must be green. That’s Dad’s favourite.
Woman: I’ll try! But you must help me, too. There will be a lot of things to do.
Boy: OK. Give me something to do now. Shall I tidy the dining room?
Woman: No. You don’t need to do that, because we can eat outside in this lovely weather.
So you can please tidy the garden?
Boy: That sounds boring!
Woman: I know. But we want everything to look nice, don’t we?
Boy: Yes, you’re right. What present shall I get him?
Woman: How about some new gloves? He needs some for gifts and he’s lost his old ones.
Boy: But that will be expensive.
Woman: Well, I’ll give you some money. But you must call the grass first!
Boy: OK.
[pause]

Woman: Me too.
[pause]
Woman: And I didn’t have my comb with me..

My hair was very untidy all day.
[pause]
Woman: And later on, I had to write a difficult letter and I couldn’t spell some of the

Woman: On top of the television at home. I made some mistakes, I think!
[pause]
Woman: I needed to read about an important meeting too. The writing was very small. I

Woman: Yes.
