Change in Human Perception of Water with Varying Contexts

Throughout history, water has been a central requirement for the existence of humanity.
Humans are not only familiar with water, but they also understand their relationship to
water in the sense that they are utterly dependent upon it. To a very large extent water
affects an individual both physically as well as psychologically. Because water features
are being used more frequently in interior and exterior design projects, new studies must
be conducted on how these water features affect individuals on a psychological level.
This research explores the psychological effects Water features have on minds of people
in different context of area and climatic conditions
It is a common belief that having a water feature promotes an air of sophistication,
elegance, and relaxation. But it is not necessary for it to be true for all the regions
with different climatic conditions. Water features and interior ponds in large
buildings and federal structures were once very common. Viewers were
mesmerized by the beauty and elegance of these spaces and desired to have them
in their own business environment but in some places these water features are
undesired and have a negative impact on a person’s mind.
Water features have been used in a variety of places such as healthcare facilities,
childcare centres, adult centres, and commercial spaces to create a calming
environment. Sounds of softly trickling water have replaced background music in
some facilities in order to promote a healing atmosphere.
Because water features are installed in many places, it is important to establish if
these features do positively or negatively affect individuals psychologically.
This dissertation will focus on studying and analyzing different structures
understand how they have utilized water elements and analyzing if they have a
positive or negative impact on the occupants and if these features have a purpose
to be fulfilled in the structure or they have harmful impact on the physiology and
psychology of the occupants.
This will ultimately help in the thesis to provide efficient features and pros and
cons of water bodies in the interior spaces and and how they can be utilized to
benefit the occupants of the space.
