Writing an Editorial

An editorial is an article that states a person’s opinion on a particular

issue. Basically, it is a persuasive essay on a researchable topic that
has more than one view point.

1. Choose your topic. Think of an issue that is important to you that some people

disagree with. Write your issue here:

2. Write your “hook”. Your first sentence should catch your reader’s attention. This
could be a fact, a question, or an amazing statement about the issue.

3. Write YOUR opinion on the issue. Let your reader know what you think about it.

reader with something “extra” – what they can do about the issue or what you predict will
