One-Pager

“The Lottery”

A one-pager is a way of responding to a piece of writing on a single sheet of paper. It represents your
own written and graphic interpretation of what you have read. It may be literal (just based on the facts
and information in the piece), or it may be a symbolic representation of the piece. It helps you as the
reader to visualize what you are reading.

Directions:

 Must be on standard size, unlined paper

 Must fill the entire page
 Writing must be in ink (no pencil)
 You may use colored pens, crayons, pencils, or markers

The following required elements may be arranged on the page in any way you choose:

1. Title and Author’s Name

2. A graphic representation of a symbol along with a description/analysis

3. At least one quote that represents the mood of the text

a. Remember, mood is the emotion the author aims to evoke in the reader through words
and imagery.

4. At least one additional key quote from the text

a. Remember, this does not have to be dialogue.

5. A graphic representation of the text and the quotes you chose

a. This means you must include images that illustrate the text as a whole along with the
quotes you chose.
