Lab work 5: Machining Turning

Introduction/ objective :

In this experiment, lathe is the one main apparatus in order to complete the experiment. Lathe is
one of the most important machine tools in the metal working industry. A lathe operates on the
principle of a rotating work piece and a fixes cutting tool. The cutting tool is feed into the work
piece, which rotates about its own axis, causing the work piece to be formed to desired shape.
The objective is to study how to operate facing cutting, turning cutting and chamfering cutting
using lathe machine. Lathe machine can not do drilling and milling because the lathe machine is
use single point cutting. Drilling and milling in order to do it need to have multipoint cutting.
The second objective is to understand tool, work piece and chip contact.

Apparatus/ Material: work piece, lathe machine, vernier caliper
