Course Overview:
Gaining a solid understanding of the concepts we will study in
Ancient/World History allows a greater understanding of how civilization has become what it is
today. The study of Ancient/World History also allows us to understand the developments that
were made throughout the course of history that have impacted mankind for the better or worse.
In this course, we will explore the ancient civilizations such as Greece, Rome, Medieval era,
Renaissance era and other world civilizations and explore what contributions they have made to
humankind.

Grading:
Grading will occur on a variety of assignments, including exams, class assignments,
projects, and overall participation.

Quizzes/Homework 10%
Unit Tests 15%
Midterm Exam 10%
Final Exam 20%
Grading Scale:
A=90-100 B=80-89
C=70-79 D=60-69
F=59-below
Makeup Work:
A. If absent from class, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make up the work.
B. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out what work you missed.
C. If you miss any notes, it is YOUR JOB to get them from a classmate.
Late Work Policy:
A. I do accept late work, but with a stipulation. I give you a week grace period after the
assignment is due to be able to turn in for FULL CREDIT. However, in life, being late
has consequences. If after a week an assignment is given and the assignment is still not
turned in it will become A ZERO.
B. If a student is absent the day an assignment is given, the latest the assignment that can be
turned in is ONE WEEK AFTER THEY RETURN from absence.
C. Students – it is my expectation that you will take responsibility for you own actions. This
includes completing assigned content and work. If there is an assignment or project that
you are unsure of and have questions about, feel free to ask me for help to better
understand the content and material.
Bathroom Policy:
A. You are in high school now, you should have good judgement of when it is appropriate to
use the bathroom during class. I also understand that students need to use the restroom
during class.
B. Please be polite and respectful to your classmates and do not abuse the restroom privilege
C. Only 1 student at a time will be allowed to use the bathroom at a time
D. No one will be allowed to use the restroom the first and last 15 minutes of class.
Behavioral Consequences:
A. Verbal Warning
B. If behavior does not improve, I will meet with student individually
C. After-School Detention
D. If still no improvement, I will call home and will issue student a office referral.
If at any point I feel the behavior is completely out of hand, it will be at my
discretion to skip steps A and B.
Cell Phones:
NO CELL PHONES! With the initiative of everyone going 1-1 with computers, there is no
need for cell phones! There is no need for a cell phone in a classroom setting, your friends will
be there when school is over; you do not need to text them during the day. If I see you using your
cell phone for any other reason for academic purposes or for how I asked, I will ask you to put it
away. If the problem continues to occur, I will write after-school detentions.

Cheating:
Cheating is one of my biggest pet-peeves and there will be ABSOLUTLEY no tolerance
for in in my classroom. If students are caught cheating on a quiz or test, they will be given a
ZERO for the quiz or test and not have an opportunity to retake the test. Also, students who
cheat on assignments will be given a ZERO for the assignment.

Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is a serious offense. Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s words, ideas, or
work as your own, without giving credit to the true author, is a form of cheating. Since
plagiarism is a form of cheating, I have no tolerance for it. If caught plagiarizing, the student will
be given a zero for the assignment.

A. We will acknowledge and respect the diverse cultural experiences and
backgrounds in class.
B. We will respect diverse opinions, even if we do not always agree,
C. We will not insult any individuals or groups of individuals.
D. We will create a safe environment, conductive to open and honest conversation.

One of the main tools for a successful classroom atmosphere is RESPECT. I have no
tolerance for lack of respect, whether it is to your classmates or myself. I will give the utmost
respect to each and every student, and I expect the same in return.
