Ms. Metts's Management Plan
My management plan and syllabus may change after a while or student teaching.
However, This is how I believe I should and would run my classroom.

Physical Space
My classroom will have a welcoming and inviting room for my students. The layout of my
room will have flexible seating for my students. I believe in flexible seating because in research
and my own experience different options for seating provided students the option to feel
comfortable which allowed them to focus more in class. The seating in my room will be arranged
so I have enough space and access to get to my students when they need help. The theme of
my room will have either natural lighting from windows or I will have dim lighting from lamps, and
fairy lights. This way my students do not feel overstimulated by the very bright lighting provided
by the lights in the ceiling. At the back of the room, I will have a station set up with materials
such as pens, pencils, papers, highlighters, and turn-in bins for each period. Last but not least
the overall theme will be vintage themed. This way it's calming and gives a different style than
any of the other rooms in the school.

Non-instructional Routines
There are a few non-instructional routines that I plan on using in my classroom. I plan to
stand at the door to greet students that are coming into class each period. If I am not standing at
the door I plan to talk to individual students that come into my class. I will start by talking about
how they are or how their weekend was. The other thing I will do is connect with students by
talking about their favorite things like sports, tv shows, movies, music artists, etc. These routines
allow me to get to know students and build relationships with them.

Instructional Routines
The instructional routines that I have will vary slightly from class to class because of
some of the classes I teach. Generally, each class will start with a daily warm=up with daily
questions that will gauge where students are with topics and where they are personally today.
While the students are doing warm-ups I will be looking over answers, doing attendance, and
setting up the lesson for the class period. Then I will go through the lessons and integrate
activities and discussions. The students should be taking down notes for information processing
and quizzes and tests. Then if there is time we will do a closure activity on what they learned
that day. Last but not least they will clean and pack up before they are dismissed. The variation
for classes will be in culinary they will have procedures in the lab that they need to do to be
safe. They will need to clean up the dishes and counter spaces that they have used to prep food
on.

Techniques with Negative and Positive Behavior

The techniques that I plan to use will vary for negative and positive behavior. The
negative behaviors will be dealt with in a couple of ways. I will give warnings and reminders of
the expectations. If the behavior remains consistent then I will remove the students to different
areas of the classroom and email parents. If the student continues to happen I will ask the
student to go to a designated room and I will email the staff to have that student work while in
their rooms. At that point, I will email the parents and then write a referral to the office to explain
the behavior professionally.
The techniques that I plan to use for positive behavior is emailing their parents to explain
appreciation of their student's work and let them know how they are doing in my class. I will also
thank them and recognize their behavior by saying something to them. I might write positive
referrals if the behavior was above what the students expected behavior-wise. I will write
positive referrals for any behavior that truly deserves to be recognized. The other thing that I will
do is if they are good for a sub now and then I will end the lesson short and let them have free
time to catch up on missing work or the assignment that they had to finish when the sub was
there.

Although this is my plan on how to manage my classroom, I will be flexible in changing it

because there will be certain skills that need to be added or subtracted from this plan. Thank
you for taking the time to read my management plan. Enjoy my vision board for my room on the

Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent
development necessary for strengthening the well-being of children and families. Content
focuses on perspectives of human development, research and theories, understanding and
nurturing development, and challenges to development.

Expectations:
I expect students to be on time to my class period. I expect that students show up with
note-taking materials, whether it is a laptop or a pencil and paper. I want each student to
promote positive behavior in my classroom and follow expectations that we set up on day one. I
expect communication from students on any absences or missing work. I expect students to get
something out of my class that they can use in the real world.

Grades:
Students will be graded on their performance in multiple different areas, which are as follows.
A. Homework
B. Participation/Activities
C. Projects/Essays
D. Tests/Quizzes

Grading scale:
Letter Grade Percentage

A 90-100

B 80-89

C 70-79

D 60-69

F 0-59

Homework/Assignments:
All homework is due by the due date at 11:59 pm and will be submitted virtually to Google
Classrooms. All homework and/or missing assignments will be accepted as long as they are
submitted by the end of the unit. I will be flexible with students if there are extenuating
circumstances that they have informed me of that cause them to not be able to submit before
the end of the unit.
Test/Quizzes:
A maximum of six units will be taught during the course of this class. Quizzes will be
administered at the end of each unit. They will be held during class and can be made up.
Students will have the opportunity to earn quiz points back if they come to me for corrections.

Tests will not be administered in this class. Instead of exams, projects will be assigned to
students and graded with a higher weight.

Absences:
For students that may be missing class, materials will be available on Google Classrooms on
the day of class. If there is any confusion, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as
I can. Please allow a day for me to post materials for in-class activities, in case I forget to do so
that day. If a student is going to be absent for longer than two days, please contact me so I can
provide them with materials in advance.

Tardies:
Tardies are allowed as long as they are not consistent. If a student arrives late to class on a
consistent basis there will be an email sent to the student’s parents/guardians. Along with the
email, students will have to adhere to disciplinary measures outlined by school policy for
tardiness.

Participation:
Students are expected to participate in any in-class activities, including activities with the
RealCare Baby Simulator and in-class discussions. The students will be graded on in-class
participation.

RealCare Baby Simulator:

A permission slip will be provided for this project. If parents do not feel comfortable with this
activity, I will provide their student(s) with an alternative assignment. More information about this
simulator will be provided in a future email.
