Student Lesson Plan
EDU 202

Objective: Students will understand the issues between gender and learning and how it affects
them and people around the world. They will be able to identify different stereotypes affecting
certain genders as well as coming up with their own ideas about how to help get rid of the
stereotypes causing issues with learning.

Materials/ Equipment: Composition journal, a pen or pencil, lined paper, PowerPoint


presentation, video “Gender Stereotypes and Education”

Instruction:
 Start out with a warm-up activity to determine how much they know about the subject
beforehand.
 State objective: Students will be able to correctly identify issues surrounding gender in
education, they will also be able to correctly define different vocabulary terms given at
the beginning of every week.

o Slide 2: Journal Entry “Do you know what gender stereotypes are? If so, do you
believe they exist in real life?’

Closure: Ask students for questions in regard to the presentation, hold a discussion time and ask
for volunteers to share their opinions on what they learned. Then students will take out a lined
piece of paper to answer the question “What are some ways you can help dismantle the
stereotypes surrounding gender and learning”. They will turn this assignment in at the end of
class.

Outline for lesson Plan: Gender Issues and Learning

Slide 1
 Introduction to what the students are going to be learning about.

Slide 2
 Start off the lesson with a daily journal entry, students will be required to fill up a full
page of their composition journal in 10 ten minutes. This helps the students start to gain
curiosity about they will learn that day.
Slide 3
 Discuss vocabulary terms with the class, this is to provide some context as to what
students will be learning. Students will write down definitions in their journal.
Slide 4
 Establish the difference between sex and gender since the lesson will be focusing on
gender as a social construct.
Slide 5
 Define what gender norms are and give out example, while presenting this slide question
students will be encouraged to discuss gender norms that they know of but are not listed
on the slide.

 Introduce a video titled “Gender Stereotypes in Education” This video explains what
stereotypes exist within education and how they affect the way students grow up.
Slide 7
 Give the students an opportunity to discuss in their table groups about information that
they saw in the video. They then will share their answers with the class.

 Recap and give out more examples about gender stereotypes to ensure that students know
what they are.

 Since the students now have an idea to what gender stereotypes are, they will now learn
about how exactly it affects education. They will be taking notes throughout this whole
presentation

 Explain educational opportunities offered in different parts of the world to expand student
curiosity.

 Closure activity check for understanding by asking them ways they could help get rid of
the issues and stereotypes surrounding gender and education.
Closure:
End off with an open-ended question “What are some ways you can help dismantle the
stereotypes surrounding gender and learning?”. This will help students reflect on what they
learned, and it will also help them develop their own ideas on the topic.
