• Maneuverability and functionality.

• Integral design. Accessories and
brooms and incorporated.
• Ecodesign following environmental
analysis parameters.
• Wheels without maintenance.
The justifications for ecodesign research conducted, beyond the
previously targeted, have been prepared for multiple aspects that
reflect the current situation surrounding the prevention of waste by
different social actors.

Similarly, the attempt by CLD Group to improve itself, helping to

strengthen and creating conducive conditions to allow the transi-
tion to a sustainable development, has references and key tools to
move effectively from theory to practice.
Development of early concepts

Once the analysis phase is finished, the next phase is design.

The first step was to generate different ideas, portrait robot to see where
the final model could be directed to. Encompassing all types of trolley that
had been seen so far in the analysis phase, there were finally outlined some
preliminary models that tried to capture all this, and were suitable according
the client preferences.
Development of the proposal.
Technical implications of each concept
The first session served to discard some unworkable idea and merge some of them to start
designing the final trolley proposal.

Virtual rendering of the sailboat
in a race atmosphere

After the success of the Barcelona World Race, a

milestone in Spanish ocean sailing, this new
draft of autonomous sailboat will be an interesting
opportunity that will give impetus to Spain well
ahead of the technology in the field of sailing.
The strength of the hull materials is vital.
A boat of this length is likely to suffer
repeated twists and shocks of waves due to
the weather. Like its elder brothers from the
World Race, this sailboat will use high-tech
materials, such as carbon and kevlar.

To create a machine that can successfully overcome

the Atlantic crossing, the hull’s design is as important as
the sail plan, its appendices, the programming
and the systems which he is endowed with.
The ship will be completely self-sufficient, covered with
photovoltaic panels, and with a power consumption
that would allow the sailing for years without
need to refuel, driven only by the force
obtained through wind and solar energy.
It will be equiped with anti-collision devices,
fulfilling the RIPA rules, such as a radar reflector and
AIS issuer.

Thus, it might be seen by manned

vessels. The GPS will act like the “eyes” of the vessel,
andground communications shall be effected
through asatellite modem.
The position of the ships participating the race may be
controlled thanks to the issue that every ship emits
every 24 hours and can be accessed in the
microtransat’s website.

Repsol YPF Innovation
Play is the main activity of childhood, when children
do not hesitate in using all the time available for it.
Game is an impulse that pushes us to
discover, manipulate, observe and interpret the world
around us. Playing we find friends, learn
to relate to others, exercise our
skills and abilities and venture to take
risks that help us grow and learn what
we have around us.
The point is to make young people attentive to
entire world which is closely linked
to the natural and technical environtment,
Thus, we have to develop the science observation, the “know
how”, and above all, “sympathize“ with the planet.
The world around us is changing, this is obvious.
Fossil fuels will be depleted within a few hundred years,
and the only viable way in an immediate future
will be alternative energies.
A didactics in this sense is therefore necessary;
practically saying that it is morally
required in today’s society.
To love our planet we have to know it firstly, we can not act in
a cooperative way if we do not begin to understand and love
it when being a child.
The game, therefore, can be an excellent way for a
more sustainable future.

rials such as PET recyclable.

THE PROTOTYPE

The prototype is done mostly with methacrylate and polyethylene. The main frame consists of two methacrylate
plates of 2 cm thick, pierced by laser cutting and drilling holes, and glued to the spine plates with super glue 3.

The rotating parts result from the perforation of the main plates, each consisting of two cylinders drilled and glued
together. With a single cutting operation, we obtain both the main plate and the rotating parts.

The upper basin is made of transparent polystyrene 2 mm thick and the sidewalls, polyethylene thermoformed
and then painted with lacquer in Sprain.

The base is made of a plate 2.5 mm thick and folded by means of a wooden mold and the heat gun. Finally, the cups
come from larger polystyrene cups, trimmed and painted with lacquer that same side.

PipeQuest is designed to be manufactured with recycled PET, a

material that provides environmental and mechanical qualities of
transparency and good effect. The transparent housing is made of
two main halves of transparent PET Injected and are joined by heat
sealing.Other parts such as the laterals, the base or the cups are
made of polyethylene too.

“Wherever”
In our current society we live
in a stressing world where we do
not have time to relax, to devote
to the people we love or even to
ourselves, to travel or enjoy the
small pleasures of life. We waste
all this time without being really
aware of it. Is it a consequence of
our society that we can not rea-
lly fulfil our dreams and wishes
nowadays?

If it does not allow us to find a

gap to feel uninhibited, why don’t
we create a space where everyone
can feel so? “Wherever” is a spa-
ce that allows users to anticipate
new desires and necessities. Who
would not want to arrive home at

Cemetery’s Morgue of Montjuïc (Barcelona)

Rendering. Idea and project by architect Emma Gascón

This morgue is designed to be facility for public use, owned and managed by Funeral Services of Barcelona. The building is located
next to the northern access of the Montjuic cemetery bordering a concave portion along the “Passeig del Migdia” and heading to
the cemetery fence. On the west side there is the current parking area of the cemetery and in the middle east the vegetation covers
the topography. The morgue is placed right next to the cemetery to establish a close connection with it, where access to the ceme-
tery and parking is a common space that connects the three characters (morgue, cemetery and parking).

The complex is built on a courtyard that separates and organizes the 4 main areas: The chapel of rest, the chapel, cafeteria and
administration rooms. Thus the passage between the two areas always makes through this central space that acts as a nucleus.
The rest chapels are grouped linearly, terraced to a longitudinal open porch, and lit by courtyards (Fig.1). The oratory, a place of
worship, is higher than the rest of the buildings. To access it people has to cross a wooden footbridge (Fig.3). The only possible
view from the inside to the exterior is the sky.

Multi-purpose Pavilion 2009

Rendering. Idea and project by architect Jordi Llort.

The structure of this multipurpose pavilion comprises two elements: A

structural wood mesh and pillar. The mesh structure is both skin and
support of the building. The mesh is stretched through articulated
unions when reaching the ground and through articulated arms that
give height and shapes the building.

Virtual view inside the complex, with the courtyard as a protagonist.

The construction process of the building begins with the placement of the
pillars and the mesh foundations. Once we have completed this process
the next step is the placement of the 18 pillars that support the pavilion.
At the same time you install the whole structure and finish the courtyard
placing the vertical strips that will close the building and the entrance, as
well as the doors and the windows.

With the foundations already installed we proceed to the installation of

the structural mesh. It is transported on-site in plates of 3x3 meters ma-
nufactured at the workshop. Once there, the mesh is set up completely
for distributed modules.

Afterwards the mesh knots are fixed into the arms of the pillars through
threaded unions giving the final shape to the pavilion.

REFLECTION
Reflection

We love objects and gadgets. We are surrounded by everyday

products, functional and artifacts as a way to express our
identity.

But shouldn’t we be relied upon as problem solvers in times

of crisis?

Sure, the design is here to solve problems in an optimistic

way. I believe that design has a lot of input into the social and
environmental context through an emotional education.
