National PE Standards:
- S1.E5.5 - Combines locomotor skills in cultural as well as creative dances (self and group)
with correct rhythm and pattern.
- S5.E4.5 - Describes the social benefits gained from participating in physical activity
Educational Objectives:
- Fundamental and/or Dance Movements – toe taps, heel/toe slide, knee raises, kicks,
jump turn,
- Social/Academic Focus – Learn a dance from Africa
Equipment: Music, speaker

Music: Pata Pata by: Miriam Makeba

Safety: Spacing and running into each other

Organization of Students: lines then a Circle

Directions:
- Get the kids in lines
- show them the dance
- teach each individual move
- run it together without music
- Do it with music
- Get in a circle and do it together

Cues:
- Part 1
o Toe-tap R to side, and “home,” 2X (4 counts).
o Toe-tap L to side, and “home,” 2X (4 counts).
- Part 2
o Slide feet: toes out, heels out, heels in, toes in (4 counts).
- Part 3
o Knee lift R 2X (2 counts).
o Kick forward L 2X (2 counts).
o Jump 1/4 turn to R, pause and clap (4 counts).
o Repeat all turning 1/4 turn to the R each round

Adaptations:
- Heel/toe slides can be turned into wide and close jumps (jump apart 2x jump close 2x)
