PHYSICAL EDUCATION LESSON PLAN- Lesson 2 Pickleball

Standards/Objectives/Assessment
NASPE Standard Standard 1: Demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

Psychomotor SLO S1.M12.7: Executes consistently (at least 70% of the time) a legal underhand serve to a predetermined target for
net/wall games such as badminton, volleyball or pickleball.
S1.M16.8: Forehand- and backhand-volleys with a mature form and control using a short-handled implement during
modified game play.
Assessment-How, When? During the practice of Lob and during the game observe the success of students and ability to hit the wiffle ball over
the net on a first try.

NASPE Standard Standard 2: Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics to movement and performance.

Cognitive SLO S2.M8.7: Selects offensive shot based on opponents location (hit where opponent is not).
S2.M9.8: Varies the speed, force, and trajectory of the shot based on location of the object in relation to the target.
Assessment-How, When? During the game students are moving around to get the ball because it was hit to an open place rather than just
rallying it back and forth. Teacher can assess by observing the movement of students during game.

NASPE Standard Standard 4: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.

Affective SLO S4.M4.7: Demonstrates cooperation skills by establishing rules and guidelines for resolving conflicts.
S5.M6.8: Demonstrates respect for self by asking for help and helping others in various physical activities.
Assessment-How, When? During entire class period no problems with students interacting with each other or behaving poorly. Can be
observed throughout class while teaching.
INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT:
Hi, my name is Ms. Harris and this is Mr. Rueger. We are students at IU and will be teaching you how to hit the whiffle ball using a backhand
stroke! Blake’s turn to speak “…”. After we practice those skills we will play a mini game over the net where you can practice your new learned
pickleball skills!

ORGANIZATION TRANSITION

Backhand Cues

Ready: Front hand below top of racquet; two hands on racket, balls of the feet; hands in front

Turn: turn upper body, point racquet back; look over shoulder; hand low and close, aim the handle base to target

Strike: step to target; rotate hips; arm swing not wrist

Finish: tummy to target; weight on front foot; Finish high


Serving rules
Coin toss or spinning racquet (w/logo) – winner choses Lob Serving Cues
