Target Audience/ Grade: Elementary

Name of Dance: Rhythm Dots

National PE Standards: (S1. E5. 2) Performs a teacher and/or student designed rhythmic activity
with correct response to simple rhythms.

Educational Objectives:
Students will be able to feel the beat of the music and correlate that with their hops and jumps.
Students will be able to perform a variety of hops/ jumps to the music

Equipment Needed:
Speaker
Music
Poly Spots

Music: Stolen Dance by Milky Chance

Safety Considerations:
If students are jumping onto a poly spot, make sure it doesn’t slide out underneath them
Inform students of personal space

Organization of Students:
There will be poly spots set up around the gym in a formation of 2-1-2, resembling a 5 on a dice
Students will be placed at their own set of “dots” depending on how many poly spots we have,
maybe partner students up

Directions:
This will be a rhythmic/fitness type of dance
Dots are an agility drill to help foot speed/quickness
Students will perform a variety of jumps on their dots, to the rhythm of the music

1. 2-1-2, forward and back


2. 2-1 one foot-2 and back
3. 2-1-2, forward, half turn, 2-1-2 back
4. 1 leg, hit all poly spots, 1-1-1-1-1
5. 1 leg, hit all poly spots with other leg, 1-1-1-1-1
6. 2-0-2, skip the middle 1, back and forth
7. 1-1-1-1, form a square skipping middle one, CCW
8. 1-1-1-1, form a square skipping middle one, CW
9. Make one big 2-1-2 dot formation in the gym, finish with a run forward, slide sideways,
back pedal, slide other way, no rhythm, just finishes the music.

Cues:
Explain the difference between a jump and a hop
Explain the agility portion of the “dots”

Extensions/ Adaptations/ Modifications:


Can do any type of formation you would like
Can jump/hop in many different patterns
Different music causes for different pace of hops/jumps
