Summary
Throughout this unit plan, students will be exposed to the ideas and
historical figures associated with the Enlightenment era, and how they would
influence the Founding Fathers during the early days of the United States. The
Purpose of this unit is for students to be able to cite ideas in order to support
will consist of a class discussion. The purpose of the discussion is for students
to put forward their perceptions and opinions regarding the material before
they are formally exposed to it. In the Formative-level, students will be assigned
a short essay, a matching quiz; they will make flashcards, and participate in a
the material in new ways so that they can apply their knowledge in different
minute PowerPoint presentation, in which they will discuss one of the three
Enlightenment ideas discussed, and a 3-page essay in which they will they
must answer: How did the ideas of John Locke, Montesquieu, and Adam Smith
influence the founders of the United States? These assignments will make up
the bulk of the students unit grade, and will encompass all the knowledge they
