PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Fellow Evrytanians and Friends,
Board was held during our meeting at the Charlotte Velouchi headquarters, with the
Vasilopita made by Angie Kastriches, the Charlotte president of the Daughters of Evrytania.
Charlotte Chapter 4 president, Tom Nixon welcomed everyone to the meeting. He
brought up a big donation for the local chapter's Elatos Park, where they were so thankful to
have the McGee Brothers Company donate $30,000 worth of work and materials for repairs
to the Park. Thank God for their association with an employ, Penny Karagounis, who
helped guide them towards this wonderful contribution.
Back on December 23rd, our representative in Greece, Dr. John Yfantopoulos, was
invited to speak in Karpenisi by the mayor's office and to receive an award on behalf of the
Velouchi. Dr. Yfantopoulos, with a report and slide show, gave an explanation of what our
organization offers that benefits Evrytanians in Greece and in the US. This was a great
honor for us and we offer our gratitude to both mayor Souliotis for giving us this award and
to Dr. Yfantopoulos for taking the time to take the trip to Karpenisi and give his speech.
A big thank you is due to our secretary, Bobby Tsiabassis, for compiling twelve
years of Velouchi General Assembly Minutes to form a Compendium of passed Motions
that have been made over the years. These motions will be posted on our website and
anyone who would like to review them will have that opportunity shortly.
Finally, the funds for that quality copier for the Karpenisi High School has been
transferred. These funds represent the Daughters of Evrytania and the Velouchi, with our
Evrytanian Foundation the biggest donor, for a total of 2,500 Euros.
Soon our members will receive information for our 2018 Convention being held
this year in Washington DC.
Please make sure to make your reservations early, respond to the requests to
participate in the annual ad book, and encourage your youth teams to register for the
basketball teams. We'll all be excited to attend the 2018 Convention as the Washington

will also have a lot of fun with a bus tour of Washington after our meetings are completed.
You should have received a book of raffle tickets by now. Please make every effort to
sell these and get the ticket stubs and payments returned to the office. The success of this raffle
is critical to our ability to continue to help the women and children in Evrytania as well as to
award scholarships here in the U.S.
The board will be meeting in Washington on April 15th where we will finalize plans for
our meeting and activities at the convention. I would love to have as many chapter
representatives as possible attend. If you are able please join us at the Saints Constantine and
Helen Church for this planning meeting.
I am grateful for your trust and support and I look forward to seeing you all in
Washington!

T he Charlotte Chapter of the Daughters of Evrytania met on February 12 at the
Velouchi Office for a delicious meal, business meeting and Bingo. It was well
attended and all enjoyed the fellowship and fun. This was also an opportunity for
members to pay their membership dues. Mrs. Angie Kastriches is the Chapter president.
a strong presence in our organization for
many years. She worked tirelessly for
all. She was instrumental in the success
of the Greek festival in Greensboro. She
and her family were also close friends of
the Dascalakis family. She was one of
the first “church ladies” to welcome me
and I won‟t forget her kindness.
Our second loss was of
Christina Prentzas. Her passing was
sudden and unexpected. At the time of
her death she was the Vice President of
the Winston Salem Daughters Chapter.
If you knew Christina (or Sandy as
many called her) you were blessed. She
had a personality to warm any room.
The last time I saw her was at the Silver
Tea in Winston Salem in December
where she was beaming with happiness
at the success of the event. She was so
proud of her Evrytanian roots and it
showed in all she did for our
organization. May their memories be
eternal!
Both of these wonderful
women did so much for so many and I
think we can best honor their memories
by continuing to give back. In that spirit,
I ask you all to mark your calendars for
this year‟s convention in Washington
DC. It‟s going to be a wonderful affair
and we need your presence to make it as
successful as possible. While we are
there we will meet and decide which
schools to support and how we can best
support others in need in Evrytania. We

In Loving Memory of
Virginia Hondros Lampros
Virginia Hondros Lampros Our dear,
sweet Virginia entered into eternity January 20,
2018 in the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour
at the age of 94 following a decline in health. She
was born Virginia Angeline Hondros to Arthur
and Chrisoula Hondros, both immigrants from
Greece, in Winston-Salem, NC, November 4,
1923.
In 1944 Virginia met her future
Husband John J. Lampros. They were married on
August 19, 1945, making Fayetteville, NC their
home. Virginia, a homemaker, was active in
Fayetteville civic affairs and in her church
including serving as president of Westlawn
School PTA, Fayetteville Christian Women‟s
Club, The Fayetteville Woman‟s Club , Cape
Fear Valley Hospital Volunteers, Hellenic
Women‟s Club and Greek Ladies‟ Philoptochos
Society; board member of the Salvation Army ,
Fayetteville City Board of Education and
Fayetteville Community Concerts; chairman of
the Junior Red Cross; member of the Lady Lions,
serving as chaplain, the Scotch Garden Club, and

was a loving person who had a lifelong desire to
help others. She had a strong faith and was a
fervent prayer warrior.
Virginia had a beautiful soprano voice.
She began singing in the choir of the Greek
Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem when she
was 12 years old and later in the choir at Sts.
Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in
Fayetteville into her 80s, and, over the years, was
asked to sing solos in a number of weddings. In
2003, she was recognized for her faith and
service to her church and community with the
Archangel Michael Award, the Greek Orthodox
Metropolis of Atlanta‟s highest honor.
She is survived by her sister Mary Pappas of
Pittsboro, NC; three sons, James of Fayetteville,
Michael of Greenville, NC and Stephen and wife
Martha of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; grand-daughter
Blaire Lanier and husband Eric; and step-great
grandson Jack Lanier and many beloved nieces
and nephews.

κε κηα εμαίζηα θσλή ζνπξάλνπ θαη ζπκκεηείρε
ζηελ εθθιεζηαζηηθή καο ρνξσδία κέρξη ηελ
ειηθία ησλ 80+ ρξόλσλ ηεο.

Dimitri Bakogiannis
Mr. Dimitri Bakogiannis, age 75,
passed away, Friday, September 15, 2017,
peacefully at his residence surrounded by his
loving family.
Born February 5, 1942 in Peiraias,
Greece, he was the son of the late Panagiotis
and Fontini Mathe Bakogiannis. He moved to
the United States in 1971, first living in Myrtle
Beach, before moving to Florence. He became
a resident of Bennettsville in 1982 and had
owned and operated the Dairy Dream for the
past 35 years. Mr. Bakogiannis was a member
for many years of the Evrytanian Association,
Chapter 2 – Fayetteville.
Mr. Bakogiannis was a devoted follower of
Jesus Christ. He studied daily, writing and
leading his family and friends to the truth that
only through Christ, who was resurrected by
His Father, can there be life eternal. It is in
the hope of this resurrection we now live in.
Surviving are his wife Dimitra
Katsanos Bakogiannis; two sons, Lt. Col.
Panos Christian Bakogiannis and wife
Heather of Fuquay Varina, NC and Daniel
Emannuel Bakogiannis and wife Janelle of
Bennettsville; his sister Konstantia Korukoutas
of Athens, Greece; two brothers Konstantinos
Bakogiannis of Florence and George
Bakogiannis of Athens, Greece, and five
grandchildren, Ethan Dimitri Bakogiannis,
Hayden William Bakogiannis, James Herbert
Bakogiannis, David Christian Bakogiannis,
and Margot Dimitra Bakogiannis.
He and Mrs. Mimi have stated they
were always very blessed with being a part of
this loving community and calling
Bennettsville home.

Christina Nicopoulos Prentzas,
54, of High Point, NC, passed away
suddenly and went home to be with her
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on Sunday
January 28, 2018. She was born to Maria
Nicopoulos and the late James K.
Nicopoulos on January 5, 1964.
Christina was a very well
rounded person in her local community
and a lifelong member of Saint George
Greek Orthodox church where she served
on various boards and committees, The
Ladies Philoptochos Society, Parish
Council, Daughters of Penelope and Vice
President of the Winston Salem chapter of
The Daughters of Evrytania. Christina was
very passionate especially about the High
Point Community. She was a strong
supporter of the revitalization of
Downtown High Point. High Point lost a
visionary icon, a true dedicated servant.
She served on the board of adjustment as
well as supported many candidates in
previous city council elections. In addition
to Christina's community involvement, she
was also a creative link in the furniture and
design industry for over thirty years. She

Jimmie Chris Pourlos, 85, passed away on
Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Novant Presbyterian
Hospital. Jimmie was born in Domianous Greece on
June 8, 1932, son of Efrosini Frankoskias and Chris
Pourlos.
Jimmie was the embodiment of the
American Dream. He immigrated to the United States
in March of 1951 and settled in Charlotte, NC. Jimmie
arrived in America by himself with only $11 in his
pocket, but through hard work and determination
quickly found success in his new home. During his
first two years living in America he worked at Central
Drive-In, known to the students of Central High as
"The Maid". In 1953 he acquired the restaurant and
renamed it Jimmies Restaurant. After 50 years on
Elizabeth Avenue, Jimmie's moved to its Mint Hill
location where it is currently run by his sons: Chris and
Deno.
Jimmie was a devout Orthodox Christian
and was highly involved in his church, Holy Trinity
Cathedral. He was a charter member of the Holy
Trinity Cathedral Foundation and a member of the
Parish Council for many years. Jimmie was a founding
member of the Charlotte Greek Festival and served as
its treasurer for 23 years. He was also a distinguished
member of the Evrytanian Association of America and
member of its Property and Assets Committee. An avid
outdoorsman, Jimmie loved to hunt and fish. He spent
countless summer days fishing at Surfside Pier and
autumn mornings running his beloved beagles. He
made many lasting friendships through Jimmie's
Restaurant and even met his future wife while she was
a student at Central High. Ronnie Rallis and Jimmie
were married in the Greek Orthodox Church June 1,
1958 and remained happily married for almost 60
years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded
in death by his son George Pourlos, whom he missed
dearly. His siblings: Stelio, George, Rodothea, and
Elizabeth; all of whom died during the Greek civil war.
Survivors include his wife Ronnie Rallis Pourlos, his
son Chris and wife Athena, his son Deno Pourlos, and
grandchildren Demetri, Alex, and Christena Pourlos all
of Charlotte, North Carolina and Gabrielle Gibson of
Austin, Texas, stepmother Helen Pourlos, brother
Steve Pourlos and wife Haido all of Greenville, South
Carolina, his sister Rodoula Giorgiadis and husband
Thanasi of Athens, Greece, and many nieces, nephews,
and cousins whom he loved very much. Of all the
things Jimmie cared about in life, family was always
the most important.

Elpida "Alice" Christou Politis died
peacefully on March 15, 2018 after a brief illness.
Alice was born on March 29, 1931 in the village
of Asimohori, Epirus, Greece. She was the
daughter of the late Angelos and Eleni Christou.
She came to the United States in September of
1951 and stayed with Harry and Aglaia Tseronis
in Washington, D.C. before moving to Charlotte
to live with her uncle and aunt, Nick and Helen
Economy. It was in Charlotte where she met Pete
Politis. They were married in September of 1953
and spent 65 happy years together raising three
sons, watching their family grow, and spending
many summers in Greece.
Alice was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother. She also
loved her church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox
Cathedral, where she taught Sunday School for
25 years. She was a member of the Agia Elpis
Philoptochos Ladies Society and enjoyed
volunteering at the annual Greek Festival serving
pastries.
In addition to her beloved husband,
Pete, Alice is survived by her children, Louie
Politis and his wife, Irene, Angelo Politis and his
wife, Athina, all of Charlotte and Chris Politis, of
Holden Beach, NC and LeeAnn Politis. She will
be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren,
Hope Politis Leak and her husband John, Pete
Politis, Zoe Politis, Peter Politis, Dimitri Politis,
Samantha Politis, Christopher Politis and his wife
Sheila and great-granddaughters Carmen and
Alice Politis, sister Georgia Katsoudas, brothers-
in-law Angelo Politis and Steve Politis, sister-in-
law Theodora Tsoulos and many nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by her brother,
Anastasis Christou.
The family is very grateful to Novant
Health Hospice & Palliative Care and to Dr. John
Holevas for their loving care. The family also
appreciates the love and support from many
friends and family during her illness.

CHAPTER #5 ―To Kleithi‖
GREENSBORO, NC
In Memory of
Dena Kontoulas
Dena Kontoulas of Greensboro passed
away on January 3, 2018.
Dena was born on August 16, 1927, in
Mikro Horio, Evrytania, Greece. She moved to
New York in 1949 as a dual citizen. Many
Evrytanians made this journey from Greece, after
years of civil unrest, war, death, and famine.
Shortly after arriving in New York, she moved to
Pulaski, Virginia, where she met her future
husband, Cleo Kontoulas. Cleo and Dena married
on June 21, 1953, choosing Greensboro as the
place to build their lives together.
Dena was always proud to be an
American, and grateful for the opportunities she
found here. She believed in work as a way to
serve her country and live her faith, and she
became a model for others to follow. The
Kontoulas‟ Senate Café, not far from
Woolworth‟s, became a downtown fixture during
the „60s and „70s. When progress replaced that
building, the Kontoulas‟ moved to the Alpat.
Dena continued to use her gifts and talents to
build her family, church, and community. She
was an excellent baker and cook, and soon led the
preparation of thousands of traditional pastries
for the Greek Festival at The Dormition of the
Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, pouring her
heart into every morsel. Many young people
learned from her in the kitchen. Her greatest joy
came from being an active member of the church
choir under the direction of Kevin Lawrence.
She received the Archangel Michael
Award for her dedication and contributions to the
Dormition Church. She was also a member of the
Daughters of Evrytania Association, and will
always be remembered for her generosity,
kindness and philotimo. Dena‟s family would like
to especially thank Dia, Thelma and Kawana for
their compassionate and loving care given to
Dena. We would also like to thank her devoted
best friend, Soteria, for her encouragement and
love over the years.

Dena was preceded in death by her
loving husband, Cleo, and her sister, Antigone.
She is survived by her children, Jimmy Kontoulas
and wife Gloria, Johnny Kontoulas and wife
Loula, and Irene K. Lowder and husband Craig,
and four grandchildren, Erica Kontoulas, Cleo
Kontoulas, John Kontoulas, and Paul Lowder.
She is survived by her brother Gus Dermas and
nephews and nieces, John and Yotty Dermas, Jim
and Karen Kontoulas and Linda Kontoulas.

KNOXVILLE, TN

O
ur Chapter held a successful fund
raising Raffle on Vasilopita Sunday, as
well as a successful Apokreas Dinner
& Dance. The members voted to once again,
donate $1000 to the Evrytanian Children with
Special Needs Fund, and also to fund a $1000
Scholarship to be awarded to a worthy
applicant at the annual convention in
Washington this June. We also voted to make
a significant contribution to our St. George
Church re-building fund.
Chapter president James Kotsianas presents a
check for $3500 to parish council president
John Peroulas for the on-going rebuilding of St.
George Church after a fire destroyed the
sanctuary in 2016.

Greetings from Washington DC!

O
ur chapter has been busy working on the convention
details. We are full of anticipation for June! All of the
scheduling information is available so you can start
planning your visit to our nation‟s capital. We are also very
excited to host the 4th annual board of trustees meeting on April
15th, and are looking forward to spending time with those that
will visit.

Our chapter will participate in the Greek Independence

Day Parade, in Baltimore on March 25th. It is one of my favorite
events, and we have been doing it for years. It is so meaningful
and beautiful to see the groups of little kids in full tsolia uniforms
and amalies, holding Greek flags. We will also participate in the
Greek Independence Day celebration on March 18th hosted by
Promitheas.

On Sunday, December 10, our
children celebrated a little Christmas cheer at
Pump it Up in Glenview, IL., with food,
activities, and a great time. The kids had a
wonderful time, as did the adults. We are

proud family man and distinguished member
of our Association, Konstantino (Dino) Dallas.
Dino died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday
March 25th. Dino was the most generous
individual I have ever known. One could
distinguish him in a crowd by the attention he
gave to everyone, always with a smile on his
face. He received great joy in taking care of
everyone around him, and he did so with a
tireless devotion.

thinker and debater, he loved and strongly

Episcopal Church with interment followed at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Robert

18, 2018 from 6-8 PM followed by a prayer service at 8 PM.

church services every Sunday in

Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church in Tallahassee. Mrs. Tsiklistas was a member of
the Philoptochos Society at Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church.
Mrs. Tsiklistas is survived by her husband John T. Tsiklistas, former co-owner of the
Quickie Restaurant, of Albany; a son: Tony J. Tsiklistas, Watkinsville, a daughter: Georgia T.
Caras (Jimmy), Johns Creek, GA; 4 grandchildren: Matt Tsiklistas, Statesboro, GA, Emily T.
Tolbert (Levi), Athens, GA, Billy Caras, John Caras, both of Johns Creek, GA; a brother: Jimmy
Andros, Albany.

ur Annual Vasilopita Dinner was held Sunday January 14,
2018, at Snapper Restaurant Mechanicsburg, PA.
The gathering was a great success. Everyone enjoyed the
food and fellowship.
Constantine Gus Pappas our Chapter President cut the
Vasilopita. The coin was found by John George Peslis.

John Peslis, the lucky kid who got the flouri. His parents
are George J. & Pella Peslis. His grandfather is our
past president, John G. Peslis.

Nikitas V. "Nick" Papageorgiou,
85 of Palmer Twp., died on January 30,
2018 at home surrounded by his loving
family. The devoted husband of Agapoula
"Popi" (Apostolopoulos) Papageorgiou, they
would have been married 61 years on June
29th. Nick was born in Domani, Greece on
January 21, 1933, son of the late Vasilios
and Antegone (Nicopoulos) Papageorgiou.
He was full of life and had a heart
of gold. He enjoyed spending time with his
family, especially vacations in Greece. His
grandchildren were his heart and soul and
his daughters will remember him as a
loving, humble man. He will be truly missed
and forever in our hearts. We love you
Papou!

εζκό απνηειεί, εδώ θαη ρξόληα, γηα ηνλ δήκν Καξπελεζίνπ ε
εηήζηα απνλνκή βξαβείσλ ζε 19 αξηζηεύζαληεο καζεηέο/ηξηεο
Γπκλαζίσλ θαη Λπθείσλ, θαζώο θαη ζε πνιίηεο/θνξείο κε
πξνζθνξά ζηελ ηνπηθή θνηλσλία.
Σo βξάδπ ηνπ ΢αββάηνπ, 23 Γεθεκβξίνπ 2017,
πξαγκαηνπνηήζεθε ζην ΢πλεδξηαθό Κέληξν ε εθδήισζε-ζεζκόο ηνπ
δήκνπ Καξπελεζίνπ κε ηίηιν: «Σν Πλεύκα ησλ Υξηζηνπγέλλσλ».
Πξόθεηηαη γηα ηελ εηήζηα, ρξηζηνπγελληάηηθε ηειεηή απνλνκήο
βξαβείσλ ζε αξηζηνύρνπο καζεηέο θαη καζήηξηεο ησλ ζρνιείσλ
Γεπηεξνβάζκηαο Δθπαίδεπζεο ηνπ δήκνπ όπσο θαη ζε πνιίηεο ή θνξείο
πνπ από ην δηθό ηνπο κεηεξίδη πξνζέθεξαλ ζηελ ηνπηθή θνηλσλία. Σε
βξαδηά πιαηζίσζε ε Φηιαξκνληθή Οξρήζηξα Πλεπζηώλ ππό ηε
δηεύζπλζε ηεο θαο Δπαγγειίαο Βάξζνπ, πνπ παξνπζίαζε κεισδίεο από
γλσζηά ρξηζηνπγελληάηηθα ηξαγνύδηα θαη θηλεκαηνγξαθηθέο ηαηλίεο.
Σν “παξώλ” ζηελ εθδήισζε έδσζαλ, κεηαμύ άιισλ, ν
Μεηξνπνιίηεο Καξπελεζίνπ θ. Γεώξγηνο, ν Πεξηθεξεηάξρεο ΢ηεξεάο
Διιάδαο θ. Κώζηαο Μπαθνγηάλλεο, ν δήκαξρνο Καξπελεζίνπ θ. Νίθνο
΢νπιηώηεο, ν αληηπεξηθεξεηάξρεο Π.Δ Δπξπηαλίαο θ. Άξεο Σαζηόο,
αληηδήκαξρνη, πεξηθεξεηαθνί - δεκνηηθνί ζύκβνπινη θ.α.
Ζ βξαδηά μεθίλεζε κε ραηξεηηζκό από ηνλ δήκαξρν
Καξπελεζίνπ, πνπ πξνέβε ζε έλαλ ζύληνκν απνινγηζκό ηεο ρξνληάο
πνπ θεύγεη ζε ιίγεο εκέξεο. Ο θ. ΢νπιηώηεο ζηάζεθε ζηα γεγνλόηα πνπ
ζεκάδεςαλ ην 2017 ηνλ ηόπν καο - όπσο ν απξόζκελνο ζάλαηνο ηνπ
Κώζηα Ληάπε, ε κεγάιε θσηηά ζηηο παξπθέο ηεο πόιεο πνπ απείιεζε
ζπίηηα, ην δηεζλέο βξαβείν πνπ έιαβε ε Αζηηθή Αλάπιαζε θ.α.
Βραβεία ζηα παιδιά
Καηόπηλ έγηλε ε βξάβεπζε ησλ καζεηώλ/ηξηώλ ησλ
Γπκλαζίσλ θαη Λπθείσλ ηνπ δήκνπ Καξπελεζίνπ πνπ αξίζηεπζαλ θαηά
ην ζρνιηθό έηνο 2016-2017 - ζπλνιηθά 19 ζηνλ αξηζκό.
΢σγκινηζιακή θόρηιζη
Ζ βξαδηά θνξηίζηεθε ζπγθηλεζηαθά ιίγν αξγόηεξα, όηαλ έγηλε
αλαθνξά ζηελ αδόθεηε απώιεηα ηνπ Κώζηα Ληάπε. «Έθπγε από θνληά
καο έλαο δηθόο καο άλζξσπνο, έλαο κνλαδηθόο Δπξπηάλαο, έλαο
νξακαηηζηήο πνπ θέξδηζε ηελ εθηίκεζε θαη ηνλ ζεβαζκό όισλ καο, έλαο

εμαηξεηηθόο επηζηήκνλαο, άξηζηνο νηθνγελεηάξρεο, έλαο κνλαδηθόο
θίινο, έλαο άλζξσπνο κε ην Α θεθαιαίν... Ζ πζηεξνθεκία ηνπ ζα είλαη
πάληα ζπλπθαζκέλε κε ηελ αληδηνηειή πξνζθνξά γηα ηνπο ζπκπνιίηεο
ηνπ θαη ηελ Δπξπηαλία καο πνπ αγαπνύζε κε όιε ηνπ ηελ ςπρή θαη
δηαθήκηδε κε θάζε επθαηξία», αλαθέξζεθε ζην ζρεηηθό βίληεν πνπ
πξνβιήζεθε ζηε κλήκε ηνπ.
Οη ηξεηο δήκαξρνη Καξπελεζίνπ κε ηνπο νπνίνπο
ζπλεξγάζηεθε ν Κ. Ληάπεο θαηά ηελ ελαζρόιεζή ηνπ κε ηελ ηνπηθή
απηνδηνίθεζε - ν Γεκήηξεο Καξαηζίθεο, ν Κώζηαο Μπαθνγηάλλεο θαη
ν Νίθνο ΢νπιηώηεο, απέλεηκαλ πιαθέηα ζηε ζύδπγό ηνπ, Μαίξε, θαη ζηα
δύν παηδηά ηνπ εθιηπόληνο. Γηα έλαλ άλζξσπν ζπλώλπκν ηεο
πξνζθνξάο, ηεο αληδηνηέιεηαο θαη ηεο πξνζθνξάο ζηνλ ηόπν πνπ
κεγάισζε, έθαλε ιόγν ν Γ. Καξαηζίθεο ζηε ζπγθηλεηηθή ηνπ
παξέκβαζε γηα ηνλ Κώζηα Ληάπε.
Αναγνώριζη ηης προζθοράς
Σα θεηηλά βξαβεία ήηαλ αθηεξσκέλα ζε επξπηαληθά ηδξύκαηα,
ηα νπνία ζε ηαθηά ρξνληθά δηαζηήκαηα θξνληίδνπλ λα ζηεξίδνπλ ηελ
ηνπηθή καο θνηλσλία, επηβξαβεύνληαο θαη εληζρύνληαο ζεκαληηθά ηνπο
αξηζηεύζαληεο καζεηέο ηνπ λνκνύ. Βξαβεύηεθαλ ηα εμήο ηδξύκαηα:
Ίδξπκα Γαδή- Σξηαληαθπιινπνύινπ, Ίδξπκα Αλάγλνπ, Κνπκπαξάθεην
ίδξπκα θαη Έλσζε Δπξπηάλσλ Ακεξηθήο «Σν Βεινύρη».
Ο καθηγηηής ηοσ Πανεπιζηημίοσ Αθηνών και Πρόεδρος ηης
Ανηιποροζωπείας ηης Ένωζης Δσρσηάνων Αμερικής «Σο Βελούτι» με ηον
Περιθερειάρτη ΢ηερεάς Δλλάδας κ. Κώζηα Μπακογιάννη καηά ηην απονομή
ηης ηιμηηικής πλακέηας ζε αναγνώριζη ηοσ εκπαιδεσηικού έργοσ και ηων
προζθερομένων εηήζιων σοπηροθιών ηης Ένωζης ζε Δσρσηάνες θοιηηηές

Βραβεσμένα έργα
΢ην πιαίζην ηεο εθδήισζεο, ν δήκνο Καξπελεζίνπ δελ
παξέιεηςε λα αλαθεξζεί (κέζσ ζρεηηθώλ βίληεν) θαη ζηε δηεζλή
δηάθξηζε πνπ έιαβε ην έξγν ηεο Αλάπιαζεο ηνπ ηζηνξηθνύ θέληξνπ, πνπ
πέηπρε κηα από ηηο ηξεηο πξώηεο δηαθξίζεηο αλάκεζα ζε 76 πόιεηο από
28 ρώξεο θαη βξαβεύηεθε από ηελ Παγθόζκηα Έλσζε Αξρηηεθηόλσλ
ζηε ΢ενύι ηνλ πεξαζκέλν ΢επηέκβξην.
Σέινο, ιόγνο έγηλε θαη γηα ην Υξπζό βξαβείν (ζηελ θαηεγνξία
Αζηηθή Αλάπιαζε- Έξγα ρώξσλ αλαςπρήο) πνπ απέζπαζε ην Πάξθν
Απνδήκσλ Δπξπηάλσλ, ζηνλ Παλειιήλην Γηαγσληζκό Best City

For the 3rd consecutive year in

Karpenissi, the 8th Advanced Course in
Mountain Medicine, organized by the
Medical School of the National and
Kapodistrian University of Athens, in
cooperation with the Department of
Medicine, "International Medicine -
Management of Crisis of Health" Bern
University Hospital (InselspitalBern) in
Switzerland, which is a Center for
Excellence in Emergency Medicine
especially for mountain car accidents. The
seminar was attended by physicians,
nurses, health and volunteer rescuers-
climbers.
During his work he studied a
variety of topics including the latest
techniques and developments in mountain
exploration and rescue operations,
transplants, the treatment of cold injuries,
the treatment of hypothermia, crypres,
research and rescue of avalanche victims.
At the same time, exercises were
conducted for the research and rescue of
avalanche victims as well as the way of
studying the area for the prognosis of
avalanches. The seminar was held under
the auspices of the Hellenic
Mountaineering Climbing Federation
(EOOA) and was implemented with the
support of the Region of Sterea Hellas, the
Municipality of Karpenissi, the Hellenic
Rescue Team of Evrytania and the
Velouchi Ski Center.

πξέπεη λα δνθηκάζνπκε ηηο δπλαηόηεηεο ρξήζεο κηαο ηέηνηαο κεζόδνπ
όρη κόλν ρξεκαηνδόηεζεο έξγσλ θαη δξάζεσλ αιιά θπξίσο έκκεζεο
κεζόδνπ πηνζεζίαο δεκνηηθώλ έξγσλ / δξάζεσλαπό πνιινύο.
Σν πξώην έξγν πνπ επηιέρζεθε γηα θάιεζκα ζε καδηθή
ρξεκαηνδόηεζε είλαη ην ε κεηαηξνπή ηνπ Πάξθνπ Απνδήκσλ
Δπξπηάλσλ ζε έμππλν πάξθν. Σν Πάξθν είλαη έλα κεγάιν έξγν, αμίαο
πάλσ από 2 εθ. επξώ, ην νπνίν εγθαηληάζηεθε επίζεκα ζηηο 21 Ηνπιίνπ
2017 θαη ήδε απέζπαζε ρξπζό βξαβείν ζηελ θαηεγνξία έξγσλ αζηηθήο
αλάπιαζεο ζην δηαγσληζκό best city awards 2017. Πξόθεηηαη γηα έλα
πξαγκαηηθά κεγάιν έξγν ην νπνίν έρνπλ αγθαιηάζεη νη δεκόηεο θαη νη
επηζθέπηεο ηεο πόιεο.
Σσξηλόο καο ζηόρνο είλαη ε πεξαηηέξσ αμηνπνίεζε ηνπ
πάξθνπ κέζσ ηεο πιαηθόξκαο πιεζνπνξηζκνύ θαη ηεο ρξεκαηνδόηεζεο
από πνιινύο θαη ε κεηαηξνπή ηνπ Πάξθνπ Απνδήκσλ Δπξπηάλσλ

ηνπ πάξθνπ ηα νπνία ζα παξέρνπλ ηελ απαηηνύκελε ελέξγεηα γηα ην
θσηηζκό ηνπ πάξθνπ, ελώ ηαπηόρξνλα ζα δίλνπλ ηελ
δπλαηόηεηα επαλαθόξηηζεο θηλεηώλ ηειεθώλσλ, tablet θαη lap top. Ζ
ηνπνζέηεζε ησλ θσηνβνιηατθώλ ζα γίλεη κε ηέηνην ηξόπν ώζηε ν ρώξνο
ηεο πέξγθνιαο λα κεηαηξαπεί ζε ζηεγαζκέλν ρώξν. Σαπηόρξνλα ζηελ
είζνδν ηνπ πάξθνπ ζα ηνπνζεηεζεί ζύζηεκα ειεγρόκελεο πξόζβαζεο
θαη ζα εθδνζνύλ θάξηεο ρξεζηώλ. Με ηνλ ηξόπν απηό νη πηζηνπνηεκέλνη
ρξήζηεο ζα κπνξνύλ κε ηελ θάξηα ηνπο λα εηζέιζνπλ ζην πάξθν θαη
εθηόο σξώλ ιεηηνπξγίαο ηνπ. Σαπηόρξνλα ζε όιν ην ρώξν ηνπ πάξθνπ
ζα ππάξρεη δσξεάλ πξόζβαζε Wi-Fi. ΢ηελ είζνδν ηνπ πάξθνπ θαζώο
θαη ζηα ζθαινπάηηα ηνπ πάξθνπ ζα ππάξρεη εηδηθή αλαθνξά ζηνπο
ρνξεγνύο ελώ ζα δηνξγαλσζεί εηδηθή εθδήισζε αλαγλώξηζεο όζσλ
ζπλδξάκνπλ ζε απηή ηε δξάζε ηνπ δήκνπ.
Ζ αζθάιεηα ησλ ζπλαιιαγώλ εμαζθαιίδεηαη κέζα από ηε
ζπλεξγαζία κε ηελ Δζληθή Σξάπεδα. Πξέπεη λα αληηιεθζνύκε όινη όηη
πξέπεη λα εκπιεθόκαζηε ζηηο δξάζεηο ηνπ ηόπνπο καο θαη λα ην
δείρλνπκε εκπξάθησο θαη όηη ηα έξγα ηνπ Γήκνπ είλαη έξγα ηεο
ηδηνθηεζίαο καο θαη ζα πξέπεη λα ηα πξνζηαηεύνπκε θαη λα ηα
αλαδεηθλύνπκε όπσο ην ζπίηη καο . Απηό επηρεηξνύκε λα επηηύρνπκε
κέζα από ηελ ζπγθεθξηκέλε πιαηθόξκα . Δίλαη έλα ζηνίρεκα πνπ ζα ην
θεξδίζνπκε .

Independence Day
Celebration
President Trump hosted a celebration
at the White House in honor of Greece‟s
Independence. Trump, standing beside
Archbishop Demetrios, said the tradition of the
White House hosting Greek Independence Day
celebrations was one which would continue for
many more years.

On behalf of my entire administration,

I want to extend a very warm welcome to the
hundreds of proud members of the Greek-
American community" said President Trump at
the Greek Independence Day Celebration at the
White House on March 22 "In celebrating Greek
independence, we honor Greece's influence and
we remember our common heritage. We take
renewed confidence that whatever challenges we
might face anytime in the future, we will face
them together as members of a great community
of nations", President Trump added. The
President proclaimed March 25, 2018, as "Greek
Independence Day: A National Day of
Celebration of Greek and American Democracy
Day.
Archbishop Demetrios of the
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America
also delivered remarks.

Sotirios Karanikas, the son of

Demetrios and Anastasia Karanikas, is of
Evrytanian descent from the village of
Chryso.
From 2004-2008 Sotirios attended
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) and was many times awarded a
scholarship from the Evrytanian Association
to help him in his academic endeavors.
After having completed his
education at MIT with a B.S. in Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science and a B.S.
in Management Science in 2008, he joined
Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a
derivatives trader. For years he promised to
himself that he would one day come back and
help pass down the support that was given to
him to another generation looking to study in
the USA.
March 2018 was that time he
decided to make a $2,000 donation to the
Velouchi‟s Scholarship Fund to help Greek-
American students of Evrytanian descent
pursue their higher education in the United
States.
Sotirios is a great Role Model for all
of us at the Evrytanian Association. There are
not enough words or ways to express how
grateful we are to Sotirios. His life is a
wonderful example of partnership and
collaboration seeking common goals, an
example for others to follow.
