The Education Undergraduate Society arranges and provides Professional Development
workshops for education students at the University of Lethbridge. This letter is written at the
request of Christina McMellan who attended the following seminars during the months of
January and February of 2018:

Wednesday January 17th: Daniel Balderson: “Getting Involved in the Extracurricular”


Explore how getting involved in the school culture through coaching, intramurals, and student
clubs can be a rewarding experience and great opportunity for teachers.

Tuesday January 23rd: Richelle Marynowski: "Puzzles and Problems for Numeracy"
Explore commercial games and puzzles that can be used to develop numeracy in students. Be
prepared to come and play!

Wednesday January 31st: Abby Salm: "Personal Inquiry Project: Teacher Mental Health &
Bell Let’s Talk Mental Health"
As part of Bell’s Let’s Talk Day Profession Semester III Graduate Abby Salm presents her
Profession Inquiry Project on prolonging teacher mental health throughout the school year.

Tuesday February 6th: Doug Checkley: “Working with Refugee Students”


Come explore how to welcome and support refugee students into your classroom and help set
them up for success.

Wednesday February 7th: Amy von Heyking: “Inclusive Teaching in Public and Private
Faith-Based Schools”
Alberta’s education system offers a range of fully publicly-funded and private faith-based school
options. Parents can also choose private schools or charter schools for their children. This
session will examine faith-based schooling in Alberta, and private and charter schools from the
perspective of those who may be interesting in teaching in these contexts.
