Summer@GW Resident Advisor June 2017-August 2017 The George Washington University Live-in Mentor to approximately 100 high school students throughout the summer. Focused on support in a hall who participated in the Summer@GW pre-college program. Facilitated programing revolving around college readiness and enrichment to help prepare students for their college experiences. Students varied in geographical location as well as classes taken. Resident Advisor January 2016-December 2016 University of Rhode Island Live-in Mentor for approximately 250 first year students. Focused on transitional and academic success while maintaining a safe living and learning environment. Facilitated residential hall programming revolving around diversity, education, involvement, health and safety, and community learning. Student Coordinator October 2015-January 2016 University of Rhode Island Women’s Center Organized over 10 volunteer members of the P.L.E.A.S.E (Peer’s Learning Educating And Supporting Everyone) Program, which specialized in advocacy and education for victims of interpersonal violence. Tasks include Greek 101 presentation (950+ students), URI 101 presentations (all incoming first year students), and educational workshops throughout campus. Peer Mentor for the Rose Butler Browne Mentoring Course at the University of Rhode Island (HDF 291 Course Code). The course is an elective for the Leadership Minor. This unique class focuses on the historical and contemporary perspectives revolving around Women of Color experiences. Duties included being an outside mentor to the students, facilitate presentations and teach classes about several topics which included but not limited to body image in the media, mentoring, and Women of Color in higher education. College Leadership Rhode Island September 2016-December 2016 Four-month Rhode Island based leadership program which targeted campus leaders to enhance their strengths and exposed them to different opportunities local in Rhode Island. Cape Verdean Student Association September 2014-May 2016 Multicultural Organization at the University of Rhode Island, aimed to educate the community about the Cape Verdean Culture through meetings, workshops, and community service to promote heritage on campus. Positions Held: Community Service Chair September 2015-May 2016 URI 101 Mentor September 2015-November 2015 Student mentor to incoming first year students during their first semester of college. Assisted with transitional and academic success as well as peer support. Duties included grading, facilitating lesson plans and education about the University of Rhode Island. Girls Group March 2013-June 2014 Created and facilitated a non-profit young women’s support group at the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket. Topics taught included but not limited to body image, friendships, domestic violence, and transition to high school for middle school girls. Ages ranged from 8-12 and the second year focused on high school girls ages 13-18 about the same issues and tailored to their ages. RI March 2015-March 2018 Diversifying Individuals Via Education is an annual student-lead and facilitated conference hosted by the University of Rhode Island, to help promote diversity and conversations in higher education, based on current issues affecting marginalized groups. Positions Held: Events and Programming Chair March 2018 Volunteer March 2015 Speakers and Presenters Committee March 2017 Phi Sigma Sigma Convention June 2017 Every two years each collegiate chapter is responsible for sending two officials on their behalf. During this convention the officers are responsible for electing the new Phi Sigma Sigma Grand Council and national bylaw changes that will affect over 200 chapters for the next two years. One of the bills voted on in 2017, allowed for all women identified individuals to be eligible for membership of Phi Sigma Sigma.
