Installing a new Computer

1. Enter BIOS:
A. Change the SATA to COMPATIBILITY MODE (only on new
hardware).
B. Change the Startup sequence to CD first, HD second and
exclude the rest.
2. Boot from Installation CD (press ENTER).
3. Enter the Windows Setup.
4. Press F8 (I Agree).
5. Delete all existing partitions.
6. Create new partition but leave at least 10GB free (for the image files).
7. Format C: using NTFS quick format.
8. Reboot automatically.
9. After installing hardware you will be able to configure "regional
setting".
10. At the middle tab select the "right to left languages".
11. Apply.
12. Go to the Regional tab and select.
A. Hebrew
B. Israel
13. Go to the advanced tab and select (after 10 clicks down) "Hebrew
20424"
14. Computer Name is always it's type in Capital Letters (T40, 8381-
CTO).
15. Name and Organization: Both "NEXTCOM GROUP LTD"
16. License Key
17. Time zone: Jerusalem (+2)
18. Maybe LAN configuring / just next.
19. End of installation / Reboot
20. A. maybe admin mode – no changes – you are in windows as
administrator
B. maybe profile setup – you are USER => everything is no => you are in
windows as USER.
21. Copy I386 to C:\ => eject CD
22. If USER mode right click on my computer => Manage => local user &
groups => at "Users" delete USER => yes => yes
23. Log off => log in as Administrator.
24. Right click on desktop: Arrange icon by name => Auto arrange.
25. Right click on My Computer => manage => Disk Management:
Change CD Drive letter to E and create a second partition using all the disk
space left.
26. Rename the drive C: to STARTUP and drive D: to DON’T TOUCH.
27. Right click on my computer => properties
28. Select remote desktop with V
29. At the Advanced tab select "adjust for best performance"
30. Go to "control panel" => "Power options" => every thing is never.
31. Go to display properties => screen saver => None
32. TASK BAR:
A. unlock and expand the spaces
B. properties
C. V on "Show quick launch"
D. On tab "start menu" => "show classic …"
E. Lock the task bar.
33. If LAN is not installed we need to install it at the "device manager"
34. REMEMBER: Ethernet – LAN , Network – WAN.
35. Right click on "my network places" => Properties.
36. Right click on LAN => Properties
37. Show icon with V
38. Go to "advance" tab
39. Setting /+ firewall off => OK => OK => close all
40. On pop windows that will appear – click on it
41. Every thing must get V in recommendations X2
42. Enable windows updates
43. Right click on "my computer" => "properties"
44. Automatic update tab => download update for me
45. Windows updates
46. All the jump popup – never select V
Only close them and always accept them by clicking on the yellow lines and
running the active X.
47. Before making any update be sure that the time + date configured
correctly.
48. Don't run express setup! This will install SP 3 automatically.
49. After a group of installs always make a restart even if the computer
will not ask u to.
50. After minimum 4 restarts of updates ran costume updates
51. Be aware that after the first C.U. and after a reboot you will get critical
updates again. So always run: 1) critical, 2) software, 3) drivers.
52. When there are no updates left, run the SP 3 full installation.

68. go to http://www.ynet.co.il and check if the news is working
69. go to Microsoft.com choose "security & updates"

72. on the office home choose "office update" not "Microsoft update"
73. continue to update office – full
74. restart
75. Install additional software :
• Windows Defender (Update and Scan now).
• Antivirus (Update). Remember: Install the unmanaged
version, without the GRC file!
• Ad-aware (update only).
• Add/Remove 4 good.
• Easy Cleaner.
• Adobe reader (Complete Updating).
• Codecs by this order – ffdshow, AC3filter, QuickTime
alternative.
• Norton Ghost (Run live update and uncheck 'show
Norton ghost tray icon at startup').
• DWG trueview (copy the fonts folder to local drive,
overwriting the existing one).
• Cute PDF and converter.
• Both Windows and MSN Live Messengers (Remove all
check box).
• Skype (pay attention – don't install the google
desktop!).
76. Copy IBM picture to – C:/Documents and
Settings/Administrator/Local Setting/Application Data/Microsoft. Open the
picture and choose 'set as desktop background'.
77. For PC and Laptop with DVD or Combo Drives => install "WinDVD"
+ "Sonic Writer".
78. Restart
79. FOR NOTEBOOK ONLY: Make a folder on the desktop named
WAN and
Copy to this folder the installation of the following programs:
a. IBM Access Connections.
b. Hotkey.
c. IBM System Update.
88. Copy HOSTS file to the following location: C:\Windows\System
32\Drivers\etc (overwrite).
89. Open Internet Explorer, go to http://vas and download the installation
file to desktop (Don't install, only download).
90. Copy NEXTCOM SUPPORT file to desktop.
91. Computer clean up before ghost:
a) C:\Documents and Setting\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp:
Select all and permanently delete.
b) C:\Windows: Select all Windows Update temp folders and
permanently delete them. Clean the Temp folder.
c) Delete everything in the Shared Documents folder and in the
Administrator's Documents folder.
d) Delete everything in C: drive Except for Documents and
Settings, Program Files, I386 and Windows.
89. Delete all the icons on the Desktop Except for:
• My Documents.
• My Computer.
• My Network Places.
• Recycle Bin.
• Internet Explorer.
91. Start => run => msconfig.
92. Startup.
93. Uncheck all except: ccApp, VPTray, MSASCui, hkcmd, ctfmon.
94. Exit without restart.
95. Right click on Internet Explorer => "properties" => delete => delete
one by one => delete all => Also delete files and settings stored by Add-ons.
96. Arranging the Start Menu:
• Right click on 'START' =>"Open" => Minimize the window to half
screen size
• Right click on 'START' => 'Open All users' => Minimize the window
to half screen size.
• Rename the 'accessories' folder to 'ACCESSORIES'.
• Rename the 'Administrative tools' folder to 'ADMIN TOOLS'.
• Rename the 'Startup' folder to 'STARTUP'.
• Rename the 'Microsoft Office 2003' folder to 'OFFICE 2003'.
• Rename the 'Games' folder to 'WINDOWS GAMES'.
• Create a folder named INTERNET.
• Move 4 icons (Office and Windows update) to ACCESSORIES.
• Move Symantec, AddRemove, EasyCleaner, Ad-Aware and Ghost
folders to ADMIN TOOLS folder.
• Move all the other folders into ACCESSORIES.
• Move Internet Explorer and Outlook Express icons into INTERNET.
• Move WINDOWS GAMES into ACCESSORIES.
• In the root of 'All users' start menu leave the following icons: ADOBE
READER, SKYPE, MESSENGER, TRUEVIEW, WINDVD,
BUNRNING CD.
97. Restart
98. At Windows Startup, mark the msconfig window checkbox to not
show this message again and close it.
99. Right-click on My Computer => manage => Event viewer => Clean
both Application and System logs, without saving a copy of them.

GHOST
• Run Norton Ghost 2003.
• Click on Backup.
• Click 'Next'.
• Destination Must be 'File' and Source 'STARTUP (C:)'.
• Click 'Next'.
• Add Ghost disk identification => Click OK.
• Image file name: Click 'Browse' => Choose Drive D: (DON’T
TOUCH) and file name is the same as the computer's name (its type).
• Click 'Next'.
• Click 'Continue' at every massage window.
• Choose 'Advanced'.
• Click on the 'Command line' tab and write the following line:
'split=690'.
• Click 'OK'.
• At the last window, Click the 'Run now' button and accept the warning.

The Computer will now reboot, load the Norton Ghost DOS program and create the
image files on drive D: (DON’T TOUCH). After the process is done, the Computer
will reboot automatically into Windows.

Restoring the Computer From the Image files


 Move the image files into a directory with the same name on the
Ghosts Server (User: administrator, Password: 1234567890) or burn it to
DVD's.
 Place the Hiren's boot CD in the CD/DVD drive and restart the
computer.
 Choose 'boot from CD'.
 Choose 'next…'.
 Choose 'other tools'.
 Choose the 'Universal TCP/IP Network'.
 Enter administrator password (1234567890).
 Press Esc.
 Enter the Command: NET USE K: \\GHOSTS\GHOSTS$
 Go to K:
 Run the batch file 1
 Choose 'Local' => 'Partition' => 'From Image'.
 Choose the image file from its directory.
 Select the Disk and the partition for the image's destination and Click
on 'Proceed'.
 After the restoration is complete, press the 'Restart now' button.

The Computer will now restart and have only one partition (STATUP). After a few
minutes you will get a 'new hardware has been installed' massage which will ask you
to restart the computer. Wait until there is no more HD activity and then restart the
computer. If you have followed all the steps above, you are now done!!!
