AL-NAKHEEL TOWER:

Nakheel harbor and tower, Dubai’s new capital will be the inspiration of the region and the
world to begin a new era. This mixed-used development will be located in the heart of new
Dubai and will Include the world’s tallest building.
Nakheel tower in itself will be a vertical city accommodating 15,000 people in an efficient LEED
rated, sustainable building. It’s one-kilometer height building has more than 200 floors,
designed by Woods Bagot. This building has combine a 5-star hotel, offices, luxury residential
and serviced apartments along with all the facilities required in the center.

ARCHITECTURE:
The Nakheel tower seeks to reduce the human impact on environment by being a beacon of
passive ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) initiatives. Striving for minimize its carbon
footprint by intelligent design solutions. The tower is divided into four separate towers to reach
the maximum heights, each with their own core and structurally linked at every 25 floors by a
skybridge acts like a podium for each tower above it. The Nakheel tower deals with the issues
of wind by allowing the wind to pass through the tower. It’s achieved by incorporating two slots
through the height of the tower.
The shape of it is inspired by the Arabic pattern base (regular geometric shape that symbolizes
equal radiation in all directions from a single point). The circle has been the form of the plan,
and the locations of the columns in the plan is the 16-point star. This tower is different from
other vertical communities by the skybridge which has multiple roles. Offering public spaces
where residents and visitors meet. They also play the role of the transfer points between lifts,
the refuge zones as in emergency. And the structural link between the four towers legs, acting
like a belt truss that blinds the tower together.
The separation of the four towers helps in fire and life safety by providing a core for each tower
for example, if one of the towers core disabled due to an emergency, you can either go up or
down to another tower which is safe. The idea of servicing 15000 people vertically requires
innovative design solutions. The tower is serviced by 156 lifts using latest technology and
express lifts. All 156 lifts can be used for fire evacuation to refuge zones or complete
evacuation.
Due to the huge scale of AL Nakheel tower and the time projected in build it. A key is required
during the design process to maximize the repetition of façade elements, to keep construction
time and cost down as much as possible.
In a region like the middle east with its harsh climate, the existence of sustainability is one of
the upmost importance. Whereas, the curtain wall and titanium cladding panelizes the entire
façade. The façade incorporates the latest technology in glass. Using nanotechnology to allow
maximum light transmission, and providing shading co-efficiencies and U-values to resist direct
sunlight and high humidity levels.
