Cooperative Learning Lesson Plan

Describe the Class


30 students in 11th grade, 4 learning disabled, I Second Language Learner, and 3 gifted.

Subject/Skill
History: Civil War

Objectives
Students will familiarize themselves with dates, names, locations, and any vocabulary from the
chapter. Students will work in groups, to study all material for Civil War exam.

Procedures
Teacher will begin lecture assisted by power point, teacher will explain what the students will
need to know for the exam. Will review vocabulary, dates, important names, and locations.
Before splitting students into their smaller groups, teacher will ask students if they have any
questions before beginning group work.
Review Prerequisites: Class will review material from previous class to check students’
knowledge of previous class materials.
Modeling: Students will be grouped by 5, and allowed to group study cooperatively with
worksheets created by the teacher, accompanied with answer sheets. Students will help one
another by looking up answer with the assistance of the textbook.
Conducting Learning Probes/Guided Practice: Teacher will circulate through the room to help
students with questions, and to make sure all students are engaged in study groups. Teacher will
make sure all students are looking up answers, as well as engaging each other in discussion and
question and answers.
Independent Student Practice: Teacher will inform students when time is up to split back up in
preparation for quiz. Students will take quiz as individuals, and will receive an individual score,
but will also be scored as a group.

Materials
The following is needed for the lesson (pencil, erasure, textbook, worksheet handouts as well as
answer sheet handout).
Modifications
Lesson will take place in the classroom, by breaking down students into groups of five for
cooperative studying groups. Students will then take the quiz individually.
Modifications
Students will be grouped by accordingly, students with the greatest ability with those who are
learning disabled to assist with their studying. Students with language barriers will be assisted by
those who are bilingual and will be given additional help from the teacher.
Assessment
Students will be graded on using a scoring system of 0 to 30 points which will show how the
students progressed from previous quiz scores, the teacher is responsible for scoring quizzes.
Each group will receive a score based upon team’s average. Groups that improve 10 to 15 will
receive a good placement. Teams that receive and improvement 15 to 24 will receive a great
placement. The group that improves 24 to 35 will receive an excellent placement.
