driver and drove away in his car early yesterday
mor ning.
The driver was targeted by two men as he collec-
ted a fare at an address in Elgin Avenue, New
Parks, Leicester, shortly before 3am, police have
said.
The men threatened the 50-year-old driver with
what are believed to be knives and told him to
hand over his mobile phone.
The driver was then told to get out of the taxi, a
Toyota Prius, and the men drove off in it.
Police said the driver was not injured.
The car was later recovered in Gooding Avenue,
at the junction with Redmarle Road, Braunstone,
a short while later.
SUSPICIOUS
Detective Constable Krupa Parmar said: “The
car can be driven without keys, which the driver
didn’t hand over.
“It can only be driven for a short time without
the keys, which is when the suspects abandoned
it in Gooding Avenue.
“I would like to speak to anyone who may have
seen or heard anything suspicious in Elgin Aven-
ue, Gooding Avenue, Redmarle Road or the sur-
rounding areas at the time of the incident.”
One of the men, who was believed to be the front
seat passenger and drove the taxi, is white, 5ft
8ins or 5ft 9ins, in his early 20s and of slim build.
He was wearing a red top and black trousers.
