‘ … Koronde Surimuita Toko, Chi Ga Nijinde Shimiru Keredo … ’

Now I’m sitting in the car, going back home from the wonderful trip. It likes the party

is over, everybody goes back to their home. That is what we are doing now. I’m looking

outside the window. It’s raining, of course, it’s raining. I’m glad that it didn’t rain while we

were enjoying ourselves on the beach. A misunderstandable song plays along to the darkness

outside the window. Everyone asked me that ‘Did you really understand what is the meaning

of the song?’ Well, I don’t, people are not only listening to music because it has a good

meaning that strikes the listener. If that is it, you can read a poem or a story, novel, or else,

and get the same thing. The characteristic that makes music different from that things is, it

has rhythm, and we can enjoy it. Music from other countries is like you’re listening to an

orchestra that doesn’t even have the lyrics and of course, it doesn’t even have a meaning.

It is still raining, from the time we left until now, it is almost two hours. Now it’s

dark, outside of the car is completely covered with darkness, no lights at all. Darkness keep

continues and continues. I see nothing. I wish I know how can my dad see and know the way

we should go. My mom is sleeping now. She’s so tired from the vacation.

The song still plays, along the car is moving. Then it stops. My dad stops the car at

the crossroad and gets off it. There was a cute little cat run across the street, he saw that and

stopped the car. When he was carrying the cat, the lights, which is very small and far far

away from my sight, quickly become bigger and bigger…

“Bang!”

The car crashes into us. The cat runs to a girl who is the owner, maybe. My dad soars

to the sky, but only the upper part. The lower part is still on the ground. My mom wakes up

from the shocks, and accidently sees her husband spreads into two parts, she stunned, and

screams. But it does not end.

“Bang!”

 Another car from the left also crashes us.

The car window breaks stabs exactly to my left arm and decapitated my mom. The

scream slowly stops and starts again. It is not from my mom, it is from me.

I start passing out from losing blood and my vision starts blurring. I see some

gentlemen getting down from the car in front of my eyes, other four from the left and one of

them try to get me out of the car, that is the last thing that I see, then I faint.

Now the time is seven in the morning, the school will start in the next hour. I’m

standing in front of ‘his’ house and waiting for him. I have been standing here for almost ten

minutes. Normally he wakes up early. What’s wrong with him? I see the curtain in his room

is opened. The sun directly shines into his room through that window, but he is still asleep.

“Ix, wake up now! It’s the time for going to school!” I shout to his room. The sound flows in

the air for a second. Then the curtain in his room is closed,

I’m mad now. Does he just ignored me and doesn’t care any of my speech? I walk

into his house, by using the key that he had given to me since last month. I walk to the second

floor and open the first door on the left. I see him sleeping. I cross my arm, fed up with his

behavior, then I think of a good idea to make him awake.

“Wake up man. This is not Sunday… ” I whisper to him, give him a last chance to

wake up, but he is still asleep. No chance left, he must wake up now. I whisper to him again,

with the loudest voice I can make “I said this to you a lot, Ix. Please, don't be lazy! It’s the

time!”

It works, he flinches, opens his eyes, gets himself into a sitting position, points his

finger to me and shouts back, the right eye which the color is brighter than another makes

him look like he’s half-awake. “ Ah… What are you doing! My ears… Do you really want

me to be deaf Reina?” I’m looking to the other way, curling my hair, and acting like I didn’t

do anything wrong. It’s not my fault, though. He doesn't want to wake up by himself, does

he?

“OK, OK, I’m awake now.” He gets off the bed and stands up. Then he’s looking

around like finding something. “I cannot see you, though. Where are you?” he said. Did he

just say that? He plays a joke with my height again, didn’t he? If you don’t know. I’m only

one and a half meters tall, and the joke that relates to my height makes me frustrated. I stand

silently and make a fist, punch him in his stomach and shout with the most aggressive voice

that I can make, “If you have time to do this, go prepare yourself now! You have a lot of

things to do in the morning, don’t you?” Then I run out and shut the door heavily.

I walk down to the first floor, go to the living room. I come to his house many times,

and I know everything that exists in this place, and I’m really sure that I can close my eyes

and go to anywhere I want in this house. I open the television and go sit on the couch across

it. I sit here every time I come to his house. The television is showing the news about the taxi

driver had buried alive. The broadcaster is speaking, while the screen behind him is showing

the brown, red thing with a lot of mosaics, makes me imagine to something creepy.

“How can someone do this. It’s so cruel.” I speak to myself out loud.

After Ix eating breakfast, we leave the house and lock the gate.

“Did you do ‘that’ thing already? I didn't see you do that.” I asked him, now he

noticed that he really forget something.

“Oh, I forgot, how crazy am I. Wait for me please, I will come back.”

Then he unlocks the door and runs back to the house. I wait for him at the front of the

house, joy my palm together and close my eyes.

 Ix runs into the living room, to the altar that has a photo of their parents, and starts to

speak something.

“‘Kaze ( 凮 )’ flies in the sky,

‘Mizu ( 水 )’ makes the world purify,

‘Hi ( 火 )’ lights up bright and violent,

‘Yama ( 山 )’ stands strong and silent,

‘Sora ( 空 )’ is widespread and clear,

‘Kaminari ( 雷 )’ growls and makes me fear,

‘Kiri ( 霧 )’ blocks my sight,

‘Yuki ( 雪 )’ turns the world to white”

Then he leaves the house, locked the gate again and now we’re walking to school.

“What is that poem? I wish I know what it is.” I ask while he is looking on his phone.

“My dad wrote this to my mom when they've first become lovers.” Ix take the phone

into the pocket and answered. Then he starts the storytelling about his parents again, along

with the way to school.

We arrive the school when the first bell is going to ring in the next few minutes. Both

of us sit at our seat, then the buzzer rang. Our homeroom teacher is walking in front of the

class and starts the homeroom with a bad news.

“Today we have a bad news, our friend, Bob, he suicided last night by jumping off his

house and... ” the teacher say with the toneless speech.

 All students are in silence. Only the sound that we hear is from the air conditioner,

then the silence breaks with one of the classmates stand up and punch the table.

“No way! Are you kidding me?” Said from John, Bob’s best friend. Bob, John, also

Ken and Keen who now are studying in the classroom next to us are best friends. “Yesterday

we were still go driving together, and he was so happy that he will get a new motorbike.

Seriously, what would be the reason that he jumped down from his house”. Things that

connect four of them together is cars, and they like to go driving together, even none of them

have a driving license.

“Dead is dead, nothing else. One man dies, that’s it.” Said from the man who is

behind John. That makes John turns back and stares at him.

“What’s your problem Ix.” John looks into his eyes, also Ix. “You know what, that

two-colored eye is creepy. Who’s in the world have eyes like that?” I think I didn’t mention

this before, he has odd-eyes, the left one is back and another is gray.

Ix smiles back to him, then squints his left eye and stares at his interlocutor, “Thanks

for telling that my eyes are creepy. Then why you don’t just shut up and sit down when

you’re looking at me?”

That makes John frustrated, he jerks Ix’s collar and raised his fist. He almost punches

him, but thanks for the teacher and other students come and reach him first.

John goes back to his seat. Me and my friend, Mary make Ix calms down. Then the class

starts.

After class, I and Ix are walking back home together, along with the sunset and beside

the river. Everything is in silence. I look at him and asked the thing that had happened today.

“Why would you need to be so cruel today, this is weird. Mary was also talking about this

with me. Did you have any problem?” I look up to his face.

 “I’m fine. I just only feel annoyed when I hear something about death. Everyone will

be dead, no one is immortal. You need the feeling of losing someone. It is life.” Ix answers

back. He looks at his left arm where the bandages are covered.

I think I understand him. He told me that he got the car accident about two years ago.

That bereaves both of his parents and returns back in form of the scar on his left brachium.

After I separate with him. I’m continue walking back home. I arrived my home and it almost

seven in the night. I walked to the second floor and take a bath, change my clothes into a t-

shirt and short pants, this is like my uniform when I’m at home. Then I do my homework

until ten. After that, I’m preparing to sleep. While I’m laying on my bed, my phone rings. It’s

Mary. Please, today I’m so tired, please let me sleep. I receive the phone and starts talking

with her.

“Hello Mary, what’s up?”

‘I feel depressed.’

“About what? Bob?”

‘Yes’

“Everyone feel depressed. Nobody wants this to be happened. It’s not your fault.”

‘I'm so scared Reina, could you meet me now?’

“Now it’s ten, I think I cannot.”

‘But now I’m live alone. The house was so dark and creepy.’

“What? You live alone? How about your dad?”

‘You know this Reina, my dad is so busy.’

“How can your dad is busy now?”

‘I really don’t know, he does a lot of work since… ’

“OK, OK, I will go now.”

 I hang up the phone, open the closet once again, get the gray, hoodie shirt and wear it.

My house and Mary’s house are close, it’s closer than Ix’s house. I come out of the house

lock the gate, turn right and walk to her house. The way is pretty dark, only the lights from

the streets and the moonlight shine brightly make me see the way. I had many things in my

mind today. But now it's somehow decreased. Maybe because I’ve already done my

homework, but anyway. I look up into the sky like I always do when I was looking to

someone ( #burn ). I mean, it’s the truth, though. You always looking at someone and want to

be like them. The difference is, everyone looks forward, but I’m look up, and forward, of

course. But whatever, now I was in front of Mary’s house, the light was completely out. Why

don’t you just open the lights, Mary! I'm almost shouting like that to her house, but it will

disturb someone else. But first, I turn back, face to the river and bow down. Mary’s mom

dead here last year, she drowned. She accidently fell into the river, and certainly, she cannot

swim. That makes Mary’s dad so deplored and started to work a lot harder, like in this time. I

open my phone, turn on the flashlight and shine it through the window on the third floor, into

her room in the attic, but I see nothing except darkness. Maybe she’s sleeping. I use my

phone to call to her again, but there is no answer. I jump and try to look into her house, but

the house is too dark. Now I’m really nervous, I press the doorbell rapidly for few seconds,

then I cannot hold it and take out the key in my pocket and unlocked the door. I have her

house key too, it is one from two keys that I got from my friends. I’m walking into her house,

looking around and going to the backyard, but I still cannot find her.

“Where is she?” I talked to myself. and run around the house, the key is only for the

gate, I cannot get in her house. I’m finding her for about ten minutes now. Maybe she’s on

the balcony, so that is reasonable, she didn’t notice that I came because she’s at the back of

the house and cannot see the light that I shine from the front of the house, and I cannot see

her because I’m only looking forward. See? It’s good to looking up. OK, that makes sense. I

walk to the backyard, shine the light to the balcony, but I see something else that makes my

eyes transfix to it.

Up to the lamp post across the window on the second floor, below the balcony. I see

Mary, has stabbed through her chest on the lamp post up to the sky, the moon shines brightly

especially to her like the light that shines to the main character in the theater. My mind is

blown, but I cannot leave my eyes out of that. I call the police, but when they receive the

phone, I’m speechless. The image is still sticking in my eyes, then I pass out.

I’m slowly open my eyes. I see the white, clear room. I think I’m in the hospital. I’m

looking around, then I see Ix sleep beside me. I call his name and shake his body. It works, he

slowly wakes up and looks at me. Then he grabs my wrist hardly.

“What happened to you, tell me now!” He said, “The police called me using your

phone and tell me that you’re passed out in Mary’s house...”

“Mary! Does she fine?” I ask, hopefully, I see the hallucination, or better, I’m

dreaming.

His face looks depressed, and shake his head “No she doesn’t. The polices told that

she had fallen off the balcony and her body accidently stabbed through the lamp post. I think

that’s the problem, That thing around her house is sharp.”

“So that’s the reason, poor Mary. Thanks that tomorrow is Saturday. I don’t have to

worry about the homework. By the way, does Mary’s dad fine?”

“He’s in the room beside you.” He answers and points his finger to the wall.

“OK. I’m going to sleep now. See you tomorrow, bye~~.” I wave to him and lay

down. Then he comes closer and whispers to me.

“Please don’t die. I don’t want someone to pass away from me anymore.”

 I smile, then grin, I use my left hand touch his shiny silver hair and start to rub. After I

see that his hair looks messy enough, I stop and use both of my hand touch his cheeks and

look into his eyes.

“Please don’t worry, I’m fine, and your eyes does not creepy. It’s cool.” I sooth him

and fix the word that John had said before.

“Thanks.” Ix walks out of the room and closes the door.

I get out from the hospital on Sunday evening. Thanks for myself in the past that I had

done my homework, or else I did nothing. I walk to the car that now my dad is waiting for

me. I get on, then the car goes out of the hospital. I put on my headphones and looking out of

the window.

‘ … Hecchara Sa Sugu Naoru Kara, Ashita Ni Wa Kasabuta Dekiru…’

By the way, why there are so many cars today. Normally It isn’t, is it? I arrive home

at eight in the night. It really drains two hours from the hospital which is only about five

kilometers away to my house. I’m so tired. I go up to my room and take a shower, wear my

uniform (at home), then walk down to the first floor for eating dinner. I grab the remote and

open the television.

‘Today, at six p.m. in the Western city, there was a fire at the house in block B. The

cause of the fire is from the static electricity in the garage which has a lot of oil mist. Cause

two people died; one is cannot be observed because the body was completely burnt, another

was died later at the hospital from inhaling the smoke, named ‘Venar Ken’...’

Venar Ken? Does Ken house really? So if Ken is dead, another must be Keen, only

two people live in that house. What is happening in this city, many people died. I start

thinking, but my head does not run at all. I close the television and get into my room, open

my computer and start to search something. I’m surfing online news about things that had

happened in this couple weeks. Maybe this will help. But my body cannot hold it anymore. I

surf for half an hour and fall asleep.

I wake up again at five in the morning. It’s too early. I have started sleeping since

nine last night. I get off the bed and stretch up, walk into the bathroom and have a shower.

The weather is a bit cool today. I’m freezing when I came out of the bathroom. I open a

closet and get my uniform, an actual school uniform, took on my shirt and the bored-looking

skirt. I take two ribbons out of the drawer beside the desk and tie my hair, making a twin tail

hair style. I’ve never done this for a year because it makes me look like a child. But you

know what? It’s time to change. I wear the socks and go down to the first floor, walk to the

kitchen and have some breakfast. Then I write a note to my parents that I have breakfast

already, and I made some for them too. I get my shoes, were it and leave the house. It’s still

half past six, hopefully, Ix wakes up now. I’m walking along to the street, looking at the sky

as always, thinking about the thing that had just happened in the past few days. Bob was

suicide jump off his house, also Mary. Ken and Keen have burnt to death. We lost four

classmates (Ken and Keen are from another class, but anyway) last week. While I was

walking and thinking for a few minutes. I’ve already arrived Ix house. I unlock the fence gate

and walk into his house. I see Ix is talking to his parents and reading the poem, the same one

as always. I think he's almost finished, so I stand at the gate and wait for him, then I see a cat

on the street. I go towards him, sit on my heels and rub his head. I play with him for a few

minutes, then Ix came out with a black jacket on. He walks to the gate and sees me. Then he

acts like he realizes something.

“Good morning Reina. That twin tail makes you cute, though. I like it.” He told while

he was looking at my hair. Makes my shy a bit.

Wait, is this means I'm not cute if I not make a twin tail? How dare you. His black eye

is staring at me. I think everyone can read his mind from his black eye.

 “Had you ever… never mind, let’s go.” He said like to ask me something.

We arrive the school at seven, which is faster than usual. This is the first time that we

get to school earlier than half past seven. We walk up to the fourth floor and go to our

classroom.

“What do you think about the things that had happened in this period of time,” I asked

him.

“Nothing so far. I told you already, this is nature. Everyone must dead.” He said

tonelessly.

Then everything was in silence. Both of us get up our headphones, wait for the bell.

The school was ended, only ten out of twenty-four students in our class come to

school. John is also one of them. Normally he always comes to school, but I didn't surprise.

He lost all of his best friends, now he’s alone. So I don’t think of that much.

“Well, would you come to my house today?” Ix said, somehow he said that.

“For what?” I asked with a wonder voice

“You will know that soon”

“Ok, I’ll go, meet you at seven.”

“Sure, thanks.”

Ix walk into his house silently. Then I walk pass his house and back to my home.

What is ‘the thing’ that he want to talk with me. I go to my room again, change my clothes,

and think a lot. After I change my clothes properly, I notice that my computer has not turned

off yet. It just only in sleep mode. I’m walking to the desk and go turning off the computer.

But I notice something, I look at many tabs on the computer, along with my thinking.

I think I see something.

If this is true, someone will be in dangered. I turn off the computer, walk down the

stairs while I’m thinking. I lock the door and walk to Ix’s house. I see the sun in shining, but

It’s not the same as I see every day. It looks bloody and creepy. Now I’m at Ix house and

press the doorbell. Then Ix come out of his house.

“Wow, why you so hurry. It’s only half past six. Come in.” He says and opens the

door widely. I go in and sit on the couch that I sit every time I come ho his house in the living

room. While he is carrying a cup of tea towards me.

I look at the altar, especially in the photo.

“What is ‘the thing’ that you want to talk about?” I ask with a toneless voice.

“Well, I think you know that. How long?”

“Half an hour ago.”

“Wow, I think you know that earlier.” Then he walks to the fridge behind me, and of

course, I look at him while he is walking. Then he opens it. The thing that I don’t want to

think about, now it happens in front of my eyes.

I see John, naked, squat in the fridge, his eyes were closed, maybe he has been in that

since last night. I don’t really surprise now because I kind of thinking about that.

“How can you know that?” Ix ask with a creepy voice. His eyes are like he is looking

into my soul, makes me immediately freezing.

“So, that’s ‘Yuki’” I tell, kind of answer, then I speak something that I listen to it

every day.

“‘Kaze ( 凮 )’ flies in the sky, ‘Mizu ( 水 )’ makes the world purify,

‘Hi ( 火 )’ lights up bright and violent, ‘Yama ( 山 )’ stands strong and silent,

‘Sora ( 空 )’ is widespread and clear, ‘Kaminari ( 雷 )’ growls and makes me fear,

Ix is standing silently while I’m speaking, after that, he smiles.

“This poem means to you a lot. At least I think like that.” I said, stop for a while, then

continues. “The fist one is Bob, he jumped off his house to the death, but he didn’t do that by

himself, right? You push him off, from somewhere else maybe. If not, I wish I know how can

you make him dead beside his house, so he represents ‘Kaze’, which is the wind”

Ix nods, but still in silent.

“Continues, the second one is Mary. You also push her of her house same as Bob, but

the difference is Mary has been stabbed on the lamp post, so she’s ‘Sora’ which is the sky.

Next is Ken and Keen, their house was burnt. You can do that by using Keen as a fuel to burn

the house. So that’s the reason why his body is completely burnt, he is the representative of

‘Hi’ which is fire. Ken who is died later at the hospital from inhaling a high amount of smoke

represents ‘Kiri’ which is the mist.”

Ix still smiles with a satisfied face, and shake off his hair. His silver hair reflects the

moonlight makes it’s shinier. His left black eye looks like it has swallowed into the darkness.

He closes the fridge, makes the house more dark, and walk towards me silently.

“So I’m next?” I ask, certainly that is sarcastic. “So you have three left, what will you

going to do with me?” I'm still talking with a brave tone, but in my mind is not. My hand,

somehow my whole body was shaking. Tears almost came out of my eyes. I’m still alive, at

least for now, I think.

Ix sigh and tell me, “There's only one left.”

I’m confused for a bit but continued listening.

“Well, you know only half of it. The things that you just said is all the truth, but

you’re missing something. As you know, about Mary’s mother, I’m the one who pushes her

off and uses her fact that she cannot swim to be an advantage. So she’s ‘Mizu’ which is

water, and the another guy that I killed is the taxi driver who has been buried alive for a week

ago, so he is ‘Yama’ which is mountain, kind of.”

The image that I’ve seen on the television last Friday comes into my head.

“So you have started this thing since a year ago? Wow, you have an attempt. Why you

make all of this, these are useless, aren’t it?” I hold my breath and continues asking.

“Well, you know that my parents were passed away from the car accident right?”

“Yes, I know. What about that?” I pretend to ask. I already know the answer, but

maybe it can make him calm down.

“Two years ago, I and my parents were coming back from the vacation, but somehow

the cat went across the road, so my dad got off the car to make the cat leave.” Then his sound

is raised, and more aggressive, makes me startled. “While he was doing that, four freakin’

je*ks crashed the car and cut my dad into two pieces!” Then he is panting, losing the

character of the coolest guy that I’ve ever seen already. He controls his breath, shakes his

head and continues. “But that’s not all, after that, the taxi came from the left and also crashed

us. That cause the car’s window broke and decapitated my mom to the death.” He looks his

left arm. “I knew later that Mary and her mother were the passengers on that taxi, and the

name of all four guys. Luckily they are studying at the same school. The only thing that I did

were going to school and looking for them. Then I did my job. I killed them, by using the

poem as a keyword. Now It’s almost done…” He said when he pulled something out of his

jacket.

It is a pistol, a small silver pistol. He takes it out and places on the table.

“If you don’t understand, this is the representative of ‘Kaminari’ which is lighting.”

He describes. So this is the last one. Everything will end today. The pistol was shining like it

was laughing at me. I stare at it. Then Ix takes it and point to me. I close my eyes, I’m sure

that this is the end of my life.

 “By the way, have we ever met before?” Ix ask tonelessly. “You look like someone

I’ve seen before somewhere.”

“Please shoot me. If that accident makes you comes so far like this, and I think I

deserve that.” I answer, still closing my eyes.

“Ok, this will end now.” He sighs “Thanks for becoming my girlfriend… and for

helping me in that day”

“Wa--” I shout out and opened my eyes.

“Bang!”

He pulled the trigger, while he was aiming the gun at his head. His body fell down

and lie across me.

“So… he can remember that?” I stand up and looking at him. Look on his silver hair

which somehow changed into gray and not shiny anymore, then looking at his face, the

moonlight shines through the window. Tears come off my eyes, I sink on the floor and start

to cry, I don't know the reason why I’m doing that, I cried a lot like a baby, the memories

come back to my mind and caused me to cried harder. Then I fall asleep.

I wake up in the small room, clothes and papers are all over the place. I should have

the big cleaning day this evening. I’m walking into the bathroom and do my routine, as I do

every day. I open the wardrobe and get the suit out. It stills hard for me to take out the

clothes. Are you kidding me? Even the wardrobe is tricked me. But whatever, I wear the suit,

get my ribbons beside me and tie them, making a twin tail hair style. I get the toast out of the

toaster and eat it quickly, and get another one. Even I eat this much, I still look like a seventh-

grade child even I’m twenty-five. I’m not kidding, I really see that every day when I’m

looking in the mirror. I have done my breakfast. I wash the dishes then walk to the altar.

Looking at it for a while. I’m watching the photo of the unique man who has shiny silver hair,

black left eye, and right gray eye. Have a cheerful smile to the camera. I smile back to him

and do the thing that he did every day in the past. The wind blows, makes the bell on the

balcony shakes and makes the melodious sound. Hopefully, he’ll not mad if I add something

to his poem, the last part is kind of not rhyme too.
