Section 4 - Ballistic Profile Management

As an alternative to manually entering Ballistic Profile information through the rangefinder menu, the Tactical Interface
software allows Profile Groups to be built and edited quickly and easily. In this section, learn how to build, edit, and save Profile
Groups.

About Ballistic Profiles

Your Master List of Ballistic Profiles can be accessed from the Profile Description drop-down menu on the program Main screen.
The Master List may contain more than 5,000 Ballistic Profiles. Below is an explanation of the components that make up a
Ballistic Profile in the Tactical Interface software:
• New Descrip.: Enter a description for the Ballistic Profile that is not more than 8 characters.
Duplicate descriptions are not allowed.
• Drop Units:
• BDC (Bullet Drop Compensator): Corrects the LOS Range to the Ballistic Profile and field conditions
for a "Shoot To" Range. The Shoot To Range is for use with a calibrated ballistic turret. Just dial or
hold the appropriate calibration.
• MOA (Minutes of Angle): Standard units of angular correction for field adjustable height and
windage turrets. Returns the MOA correction for the ballistic solution to hold or dial on a standard
MOA reticle or turret. Just dial or hold the appropriate calibration.
• MIL (Milliradian of Angle): Alternate units of angular correction for field adjustable height and
windage turrets. Returns the milliradian correction for the ballistic solution to hold or dial on a standard
milliradian reticle or turret. Just dial or hold the appropriate calibration.
• IN (Inches): Correction for sight in only turrets. User estimates dimension at target (English model).
• CM (Centimeters): Correction for sight in only turrets. User estimates dimension at target (Metric model).
• Drag Std (Drag Standard):
• G1: The industry standard.
• G7: Most modern long range bullets fit this model
• Use the G1 model, unless an accurate ballistic coefficient is known based on the G7 standard
• G1 and G7 are not interchangeable
• Ballistic Coeff (Ballistic Coefficient or BC):
• All bullet manufacturers list a BC for their bullets. This number describes the bullets efficiency in
overcoming air resistance. A higher number is better. Usually the number is less than one (for example,
Berger 7mm 168 VLD G1 is 0.617). Be sure to use the Ballistic Coefficient appropriate to the selected
Drag Standard (G1 or G7).
• If using a Ballistic turret, use the BC from that profile.
• Muzzle Velocity (MV): The MV is the speed the bullet leaves the barrel the unit is feet per second (meter per
second for Metric model) and automatically corrects for a measured chronograph distance of 15 feet (4.5 meters
for Metric model).
• Sight Height: The distance from the center line of the barrel to the center line of the scope unit is inches (or
centimeters for Metric model). It is easy to measure. Add half the diameter of the scope to half the diameter of the
action to the distance between the scope and action. Or place a ruler on the side of the rifle and estimate.
• Turret Temperature: (BDC only) The temperature the ballistic turret was configured for, unit is in degrees
Fahrenheit (degrees Celsius for Metric model).
• Turret Altitude: (BDC only) The altitude the ballistic turret was configured for, unit is in feet (meters for Metric
model).
• Zero Range: The range at which your calibration for drop compensation is referenced. Usually, considering
the point blank range of your cartridge, 200 yards is a common and useful zero range. Your MOA elevation adjustment,
Ballistic Turret, or Ballistic Reticle should reflect and reference your zero range. For example,
with your rifle sighted in at 200 yards (or 100 meters for Metric model) to hit right on the bull's-eye, your ballistic
turret or MOA turret should be adjusted to reflect 2 (for 200 yards) or 0, respectively. For the Metric model, adjust to
reflect 1 (for 100 meters) or 0, respectively.
• Notes: Use this field to enter any other relevant information about the cartridge; i.e. bullet grain or manufacturer.
Profile notes do not upload to the laser, they are only saved within the PC file. Conversely, when a profile is
downloaded from a laser, the profile notes field will be blank.

that Ballistic Profile is selected for use in the future. The Master List contains all the Ballistic Profiles that have ever been built
and saved on that PC - it may be accessed to build Profile Groups from the Profile Description drop-down menu. Users may
want to keep most of the ballistic settings for a certain Ballistic Profile, but only need to change one or two details. It saves time
to select an existing Ballistic Profile and edit it rather than building a new one from scratch. Ballistic Profile descriptions are
limited to 8 characters and must be unique.

4. The program Main screen display changes to accommodate the opened Profile Group (Figure 23A). The Ballistic Profiles
included in all opened and downloaded Profile Groups are temporarily added to the bottom of your Master List for that
session for editing or uploading to a Tactical laser rangefinder. The "@" signs after each Profile Description flag the Profile
as part of a Group that has been opened. If saved, the "@" sign is removed.

Consider the following:

• Add to Master List of Ballistic Profiles: If this Profile Group was built by someone else on a different PC and then sent
to you, the individual Ballistic Profiles are not in your Master List and you can decide if you would like to add them or
not. If you do not add them, you can still upload them to as many lasers as necessary, but they will not be available in
your Master List (the Profile Description drop-down menu) when building future Profile Groups.

Add a Ballistic Profile from the opened Profile Group to your Master List of Ballistic Profiles:
1. Click the [S] button next to the Profile you wish to add to your Master List (Figure 23A).
In this example, "Profil1*" was selected.
2. If the Profile has a description that already exists in your Master List, a notification will display allowing the name
to be changed to something else (Page 16, Figure 22B). Duplicate Profile Descriptions are not allowed.
3. After a Profile is saved to the Master List, the [S] button is replaced by the normal P1-P5 labeling next to that
Profile Description and the "@" sign is removed (Figure 23B below).

• Ignore: If this Profile Group was built by you and opened from your own PC, the individual Ballistic Profiles are
already in your Master List and do not need to be saved OR if you do not wish to save any of the Ballistic Profiles
to your Master List, simply do not click the [S] buttons next to those Ballistic Profiles.

Section 5 - Profile Group Upload/Download

Profile Groups (Page 11) can be uploaded to and downloaded from Tactical laser rangefinders via cable connection
to a PC and the Tactical Interface software. Profile Group information may also be entered into the laser using the
laser's internal menu options.

Upload a Profile Group

To upload a Profile Group to a Tactical laser rangefinder, do the following:

1. Connect the Tactical to the PC, and ensure the Interface software status is listed as "CONNECTED!."
Please refer to Page 9 for further connection instructions, if necessary. If the laser is not connected,
the status displays as "DISCONNECTED" and the [Upload] button is grayed out.
2. Verify the selected Ballistic Profiles displayed are correct. The Profile information displayed in rows P1-P5 is the
information that will upload to the laser rangefinder and click [Upload] (Figure 24A).
3. A message box stating "All profiles were successfully updated!" will display. Click [OK] (Figure 24B).
The program will return to the Main screen to do further Profile management or to add this Profile Group
to another laser rangefinder. Click [Disconnect and End Session] to disconnect the current laser and connect
a different laser.
NOTE After uploading a Profile Group to a Tactical laser rangefinder, it is recommended that the information
is verified in the rangefinder itself. For detailed information on rangefinder functionality, see the User's Manual
for that device. The User's Manual can be found on the included CD.

Section 7 - Tracking Log

The Tactical Interface software generates a log file called "TacticalLog.log" that tracks usage of the program with date and time
stamps including:

• Program launch/exit
• Laser connection/disconnection and serial number
• Upload/Download/Open/Save As success or failure
• Print/Email actions
• And any program fatal errors

The tracking log can be found here:

• Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Lti\My Documents\Tactical\Log

• Windows 7 & 8: C:\Users\”Your Login Username”\My Documents\Tactica OR Libraries\Documents\Tactical\Log

Double-click to open and review program usage. Figure 30 is an example of a "TacticalLog.log" file.

Figure 30

This tracking log will continue to build with the listed information each time the Interface software is used.
In situations where multiple lasers are being uploaded with Profile Groups, the tracking log file can serve
as a reminder or history of what lasers were uploaded (by serial number) and when those uploads took place.
