My Reflection on Self-Directed Learning

The Greene School places emphasis on the student taking a leadership role in their

learning experience. This has been a jarring difference from my previous learning experiences,

and I will admit that I have still not fully acclimated to this way of teaching.

My college essay and college acceptance letters accurately reflect who I am as a learner,

and how TGS has helped me on my journey throughout my four years here. As you can see from

my college essay, I delve deep into subjects, which in turn open up other areas of study for me to

venture into.

My college acceptances, however, are what I regard as the primary examples of my

success as a learner in this school. I applied to highly rigorous schools which have established

programs and reputations, such as Fordham University, Fairfield University, and the College of

the Holy Cross. From each of these schools, I received some of their highest scholarships, and a

work study from Holy Cross.

I believe that these better represent my journey as a learner because they are the result

and reward of four years worth of hard work and self-directed learning. I do not think that it

would have been possible to achieve all that I have without going to this school. While I cannot

say that I have done everything to the best of my abilities, I have managed to overcome

everything that life has thrown at me so far.
