Q8 Please enter comments below related to the teacher candidate's lesson plan(s):

I reviewed math lessons for the week. Ms. Cordero is using the school's lesson planning template which is quite comprehensive in its
lesson component requirements. The lessons are aligned with state and local standards/objectives, included additional components
above and beyond those required by Regent University. Plans indicate a variety of assessments, use of instructional technology, and
each lesson is differentiated by learning level: above grade-level, on-grade level, and below grade level.

Q10 Please enter general comments below related to your observations.

The teaching session opens with the class seated at the front of the room on a large carpet. Children are facing the large white board
and Ms. Cordero is in front of the white board facing the children. The subject is math. The topic is identifying and counting coins. Ms.
Cordero begins with a review of prior learning.Students call out answers to questions and chant a rhyme to help them remember the
value of different coins. Ms. Cordero used hand motions and encouraged children to use hand motions to express their knowledge.
Several children are invited to come to the interactive white board to move coins around to the appropriate location depending on the
value of the coin. Students completed a variety of math problems, using pictures, at the board. After 20 minutes, Ms. Cordero has
students stand and move about to "get the wiggles out". While standing, she has the children count by 5s using large motions with their
hands and then by 10s.

Q11 What went well:

Used positive redirection of student behaviors. Effective use of technology for instruction and student practice. Ms. Cordero layered
instruction to incorporate components to meet a variety of learning styles (i.e. movement, musical, verbal, visual, etc.) movements which
provided learning through . Finally! - I heard the firm and authoritative teacher voice I have been waiting for when dealing with classroom
management issues. She was firm yet fair and the children responded well to her leadership.

Q12 What could be done differently:

I saw nothing that needed to be done differently.

Q13 Candidate's strengths:

The lesson plans indicated that students would get to explore pennies, nickles, and dimes through hands-on learning using magnifying
glasses. Use of unison response, chants, and rhymes worked well to keep the children engaged in learning. Ms. Cordero is becoming a
confident and authoritative teacher who can manage her own classroom. The children were learning valuable content that set the
foundation for future math skills.

Q14 Areas that need refinement:

The learning activity seems quite long for the age group. You did well to break it up with some movement. You may want to consider
transitioning to something about half-way through the math lesson (perhaps to their seats) and then back to the carpet for the last half.

Q15 Focus for next observation:

This was my final observation. I was so pleased to see the progress Ms. Cordero has made in regards to finding her confident teacher
voice. Instruction was sound and provided engaging and meaningful learning opportunities.
