bahasa Inggris secara komperhensif yang diberlakukan sebagai prasyarat dalam

urusan akademis di lingkungan UGM, khususnya sebagai syarat masuk dan

dengan TOEFL, terutama PBT (Paper Based TOEFL). Hanya saja 3 Section

Frogs are amphibians in the order Anura (meaning "tailless", from the
Ancient Greek an-, without + oura, tail), formerly referred to as Salientia (Latin
salere (salio), "to jump"). Most frogs are characterized by a short body, webbed
digits (fingers or toes), protruding eyes, bifid tongue and the absence of a tail.
Frogs are widely known as exceptional jumpers, and many of the anatomical (1)
of frogs, particularly their long, powerful legs, are adaptations to improve
jumping
performance. Due to their permeable skin, frogs are often semi-aquatic or inhabit
humid areas, but move easily on land. They typically lay their eggs in puddles,
ponds or lakes, and their larvae, called tadpoles, have gills and tails to develop
in
water. Adult frogs follow a carnivorous diet, mostly of arthropods, annelids and
gastropods. Frogs are (2) noticeable (dikenal) by their call, which can be widely
heard during the night or day, mainly in their mating season (musim kawin).

10
The (3) of frogs ranges from tropic to subarctic regions, but most species
are found in tropical rainforests. Consisting of more than 5,000 species described,
they are among the most diverse groups of vertebrates. However, populations of
certain frog species are declining significantly.
A distinction is often made (4) frogs and toads on the basis of their
appearance, caused by the convergent adaptation among so-called toads to dry
environments; however, this distinction has no taxonomic basis. The only family
exclusively given the common name "toad" is Bufonidae (the "true toads"), but
many species from other families are commonly called "toads", while members of
the toad genus Atelopus are referred to as "harlequin
frogs".

Text 1
Michelangelo (1) the greatest living artist in his lifetime, and ever
since
then he has been held to be one of the greatest artists of all time. A number of
his
works in painting, sculpture (pahat), and architecture rank (2) the most famous in
existence. His output in every field during his long life was prodigious; when the
sheer volume of correspondence, sketches, and reminiscences that survive is also
taken into account, he is the best-documented artist of the 16th century. Two of
his best-known works, the Pietà and David, (3) before he turned thirty. Despite his
low opinion of painting, Michelangelo also created two of the most influential
works in fresco in the history of Western art: the scenes from Genesis on the
ceiling and The Last Judgment on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. As
(4), Michelangelo pioneered the Mannerist style at the Laurentian Library. At 74
he succeeded Antonio da Sangallo the Younger as the architect of St. Peter's

The west has been supporting Israeli attack and aggressive for so long

for old in international waters is clearly and act of aggression and a violation of
international law.
Sanction should be imposed on Israel by the international community. Let
them feel what it is to have no access to food, medicine and international support.
Its not possible for any country on these global to live out of from the rest of
the
world.
What can unarmed civilians especially aid workers do to harm Israel? It is
clear that Israelis are paranoid about everything. No wonder they are living on

also
for their children and grandchildren. Violence only creates more violence. I'm
starting to sympathize with hamas and Hezbollah. If the Israelis continue their
acts of aggressive no country will sympathize with them. They will be isolate and

Text 2:
The view that class inequalities largely govern gender stratification was
often an unstated assumption until quite recently. However, feminist critiques and
the undeniable changes in women’s economic role in many western societies have
broken this issue open for debate.

The 'conventional position' in class analysis was that the paid work of
women is relatively insignificant compared to that of men, and that therefore
women can be regarded as being in the same class as their husband. (goldthorpe
1983). According to goldthorpe, whose own class scheme was originally
predicated on this belief, this is not a view based on an ideology of sexism. On
the
contrary, *it* recognizes the subordinate position in which most women find
themselves in the labour force. Women are more likely to have part-time jobs than
men, and tend to have more *intermitten* experience of paid employment because
they may withdraw for lengthy periods to bear and care for children (see chapter
18, 'work and economic life'). Since the majority of women have traditionally
been in a position of economic dependence on their husbands, it follows that their
class position is most often governed by the husband's class situation.

Goldthorpe's argument has been criticized in several ways. First, in a

substantial proportion of households the income of women is essential to
maintaining the family's economic position and mode of life.

Text 3:
One of the first principles that you must understand in advertising is
that it is limited in both time and space. Television and radio commercials are
usually only 10 to 60 seconds long. Print ads are usually no larger than two pages,
and usually much smaller. Therefore, an advertisement must do its job quickly. It
must get the consumer's attention, identify the product, and deliver the selling
message in a small time or space. In order to do this, advertising often breaks the
rules of grammar, image, and even society.
The second basic point is that advertisements usually have two parts:
copy and illustrations. Copy refers to the words in the advertisement. These words
give the sales message. Illustrations are the pictures or photographs. Most ads are
a combination of copy and illustration. Some advertisements have small
illustrations and a lot of copy. Some are only an illustration with the name of the
product.

30
The decision about how much copy and illustration to use depends on
how the advertiser want, to present the sales message. Understanding how
advertisers make this decision is complex. First you must understand how humans
process, or work with, information because we do not process all kinds of
information in the same way. We process some kinds of information
intellectually. In other words, we think about the information in order to
understand it. We process other kinds of information emotionally. This means we
use feelings rather than thinking to understand the information.
Just as there are two kinds of mental processes, there are two basic ways
of presenting a sales message: intellectually and emotionally. An intellectual
presentation uses ideas to get a consumer to buy a product or service. For
example, computer buyers usually do not think about what the machine looks like
or the effect it might have on their social life. They are looking for technical
information. How fast does the computer work? Flow large is its memory'?
The second basic way to present a sales message is emotionally. In an
emotional presentation, the use of the product is often not the most important
sales
message. Instead, the ad focuses on the buyer's social, psychological or economic
needs. For example, an emotional ad may show how the product or service will
make the consumers' social life better by increasin"g their appeal, making them
feel more confident, or making them rich. Some of the most effective ads today
are ones that use an emotional presentation.

a. is less effective compared to the emotional presentation
