Strength of Materials Spring 2018

Lab - Axial Loading

Please find below the Load-Length curve of the test that we performed in the Lab ON THE
aluminum sample. Please prepare a Lab Report and submit it in class.
Note that the diameter of the specimen is 0.35 in. and the original length is 5.7 in.
The lab report should contain the followings:
1- ABSTRACT
2- INTRODUCTION
3- OBJECTIVES
4- EQUIPMENT AND METHOD
5- CALCULATIONS AND RESULTS
6- DISCUSSON AND CONCLUSION

Include the following calculations in your report.

Plot the stress-strain Diagram
Calculate the following:
Yield Force
Yield Stress
Yield Strain
Ultimate Force
Ultimate Stress
Ultimate Strain
Rupture Force
Rupture Stress
Rupture Strain
Modulus of Elasticity
Ductility (i.e. percent total elongation over original length)
Modulus of Toughness (i.e. the area under the stress-strain diagram)
Modulus of Resilience (i.e. the area under the elastic portion of a stress-strain curve)

Also, if you have a photo of the test, please include it in your report.
