This applies to regular verbs as in irregular, in the same way as in the simple present we don’t add “s” to the third person in a negative sentences because we use doesn’t, in the negative sentences on simple past with the regular verbs we don’t add -ed and with the irregulars we don’t add the second column of the table but the first.
