The power of association

Power in potential – is meaningless and powerless if no one really obeys

Power in action – is the collective of actors obeying a person

Power cannot be both be the effect of collective action and its cause. Cause is never the
case.

Power is an empty concept to explain society. Instead, diffusion model, with the example
of inertia. Three important elements of this model, 1) what triggers the motion, 2) inertia
itself, and 3) the medium through which the token circulates. Transmission of the object.

Model of translation: the token does not have any intertia, rather it depends on new
energy sources to take on the token to different states. Actors also interpret the token
according to their own projects. Tranformation of the object
Power is made of the will of others.
The sources of power are in the hands of those who are able to shift around the answers
to the questionnaire of who we are as a society. Society constantly reinvents itself, thus,
its origins are not in a remote past.

Uncertainties, controversies are part and parcel of the very definition of the social bond.
The definition of society is performed through everyone´s efforts to define it. Those who
are powerful are those that define or redefine what holds everyone together.
Power is seen as the intense activity of enrolling, convincing and enlisting.
