Scenario
Ship at full ahead loaded condition navigating to hotter climates
Description

Type: Tanker Vessel (VLCC)

Ship’s Particulars Engine: MAN B & W MC90
Propeller: Fixed Pitch Propeller

1. Ship navigating to colder climates leading to lower ambient and sea water
temperatures. (5 – 10 deg C)
2. Main Propulsion at navigation full.
3. Shaft generator and turbo Generator is connected parallel to main bus bar
4. Two coolers for fresh and sea water system in service.
Initial Conditions 5. Ample electrical power requirements are available for operation of auxiliary
systems.
6. Temperature and pressure controllers for SW in auto mode
7. Main switch board feeder and starter is activated
8. Generators DG1 and DG2 in auto mode
9. Routine Watch keeping to be carried out
1. Check if the instructor/assessor’s station is connected to all student’s station
Assessor’s
and all systems are up and running.
Recommended
Actions 2. Check if right scenario is loaded and initial conditions are met before
commencing the exercise.

3. Pause the scenario and conduct the briefing.
4. Give the candidate enough time to prepare prior to starting the assessment.
5. Commence to run the simulation assessment by playing the scenario.
6. Monitor the candidate thru Instructor/assessor console.
6.1 Remind the candidate of the time left and actions not related with the
exercise.
6.2 Stop the assessment if the allotted time for assessment has been
reached
1. Monitor any changes in ambient and seawater temperatures
2. Monitor system for non-auto mode and switch to remote
3. Secure one cooler and pump to reduce the abrupt changes of
temperatures
Candidate’s
4. Normalize all tanks level
Recommended
5. Reduce water contaminants in settling tanks and starting air tanks.
Action
6. Prioritize critical alarms depending on the fault.
7. Identify and rectify malfunctions.

Using the Kongsberg Version 2.2 Machinery Simulator, the candidates will
commence having respective grades of 100% at the start of the simulation
Practical
scenario. A corresponding deduction to their grade depending on their
Assessment
performance vis a vis the assessment criteria will be effected as they perform the
scenario for the entire simulation duration.
