APPRENTICE LICENSED CERTIFYING MECHANIC

The Apprentice Licensed Certifying Mechanic reports to the DHL Air Ltd Engineering Training
Manager. Day to day duties and tasks may be delegated to the Line Maintenance Manager for on-
the-job training and to the contracted Apprentice training provider for off-the-job training.

Qualifications & Experience within role

The Apprentice Licensed Certifying Mechanic will, through the programme for ‘Apprenticeship
Standard for an Engineering Technician (pathway 3)’ be working towards an EASA Part 66 Category
A licence. This will need to be attained to achieve satisfactory completion of the apprenticeship
programme.

Other courses of instruction and/or work experience appropriate to the apprenticeship will be
attended as required to gain a fully rounded experience of the aircraft maintenance environment.

Under supervision, the Apprentice Licensed Certifying Mechanic will become familiar with and
experienced in Line Maintenance operations of commercial complex motor-powered aircraft to the
scope required by the EASA Pt 66 A1 licence. To complete the apprenticeship each apprentice will
be required to prove by independent assessment of knowledge, skills and attitude and by practical
demonstration that they have the competence to carry out these tasks without supervision.

DHL Air Ltd maintains its own fleet of Boeing 757 and B767 freighter aircraft at its approved Line
Maintenance facilities in the UK and Ireland. It also supports operations of customers operating
Airbus A300-600 and Boeing B777 aircraft.

Line Maintenance should be understood as any maintenance that is carried out before flight to
ensure that the aircraft is fit for the intended flight.

As an example Line Maintenance may include:


• Fluid replenishments
• Lubrication
• Simple defect rectification.
• Component replacement
• Use of built-in test equipment
• Scheduled maintenance inspections and/or checks
• Visual inspections that will detect obvious unsatisfactory conditions/discrepancies
• Opening and closing access panels/doors

Duties & Responsibilities

 Responsible to the Engineering Training Manager for the standard of all activities carried
out within the scope of the apprenticeship.

 Responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the training provider and the UK CAA are
complied with.

 Responsible for reporting any issues with the apprenticeship, training or work experience to
the Engineering Training Manager.

 Responsible for ensuring that log books, training assignments and other documentation are
completed accurately, remain legible and are completed on time.

 May not work unsupervised or sign any Certificates of Release to Service or any other
document for which they do not hold authorisation.

 Must be aware of and comply with all DHL Air Ltd Policies and Procedures and respective
customer procedures.

 Must comply with any other reasonable instruction given with proper authority. Including
but not limited to; training staff, engineers, supervisors and managers.
