Job Purpose
An exciting and challenging opportunity to join the BA Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeship Programme
and become the future talent in aircraft engineering. The Apprenticeship is a three year programme with
direct entry to British Airways Engineering, aimed at developing you to become a professional Aircraft
Technician and assist in the delivery of a world-class engineering operation. The programme is designed
to give you a broad understanding of the engineering operation whilst gaining the qualifications you need
to become an Aircraft Technician.
Principal Accountabilities
• To learn, understand and assist in our daily engineering operation.
• Assist with ensuring our technically reliant aircraft are ready for dispatch from our terminal
operations.
• Maintain all our aircraft to an approved maintenance schedule
• Carryout routine servicing of all BA aircraft.
• Assist with any minor repairs or modifications to our or customer aircraft.
• Performance of any duties consistent with role as and when required to help department meet
their objectives.

• To successfully deepen experience/ skills/ knowledge and behaviours for the role through on-
the-job learning and completing the required formal qualifications
• Manage own time effectively in order to meet all requirements of role
• Ensure Health, Safety and Security standards are adhered to including completing of appropriate
documentation
• Being an ambassador for British Airways Apprenticeships by taking part in external and internal
events and student engagement activity

Person Specification
Experience & Skills
• Work experience in an Engineering environment (desirable)

Qualifications (Essential or desirable)

Must hold or be predicted to obtain required grades before the apprenticeship start date;
5 GCSE 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent, which must include Science, Maths & English; and a minimum grade of
5/6 (B) in Maths

IMPORTANT QUALIFICATION INFORMATION

• The first year of this apprenticeship involves being based off site and living away from home.
• All GCSE’s must have been achieved and certificated.
• Any qualifications already obtained, (i.e. an A-Licence) will also be deemed as over qualified and
cannot be considered, this includes any A license modules gained prior to your start date with
us.
• Qualifications that will stop your application being considered are: -
Prior achievement of an HNC/HND or degree in Engineering
Prior achievement of any A or B license modules.
Level 2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations if achieved with aeronautical pathway/units.

Other requirements (Essential or desirable)

• Based at Heathrow but with the ability to travel. Placements could also be at our other
maintenance bases such as Gatwick and Cardiff
• Over 18’s must be prepared to work a variety of shift patterns including night, early, late and 12
hour shifts. Under 18’s will work restricted shift patterns
• A passport with at least 12 months validity is required
