Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican self-portrait artist. She was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on
July 6, 1907. When she was a little, she and a friend were on a bus when a car suddenly collided
with the bus. With this occurrence, a metal hand rail was impaled into Frida’s hip, and came out
the other side. She suffered many injuries, but it set her up for a journey that helped her find
herself. During her long recovery, she started to paint self-portraits. She reflected on herself
through each painting. She let her imagination run wild and pictured herself in many different
ways. She is not one of the most well-known artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh, but she has still
had an impact. Her story and her paintings are a big part of feminist movements even today. Her
paintings inspire people in different ways, but she still managed to take her story, good or bad,
and help it have an impact.
