Frida Kahlo (1907-1954)
He was born in 1907 and died in 1954
in Coyoacán, Mexico City. Her full
name was Magdalena Carmen Frida
Kahlo Calderon.
He studied at the German School and
at the National Preparatory School in
Mexico City. In 1925, he suffered a
tragic accident, the consequences of
which he suffered until his death.
During a long convalescence, he
began to paint his face by copying it
from a mirror mounted on the canopy
of the bed. First, he was realistic and
portrayed family and friends, he also
liked to paint flowers. But later,
because of the intensity of his feelings
and a shattered body, he painted more
and more his own image combined
with dreamlike expressions, sometimes
brutal. Even part of his work has been
associated with surrealist tendencies
due to its introspective character.
At 7 pm, the bus in which the Mexican
painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was
traveling collided with a streetcar in
Mexico City. As a result of the violent
crash, the artist (19 years old) suffered
fatal injuries and fractures that put her
to bed for a month. He came out of the
coma in which he survived with a
broken spine, clavicle, ribs, pelvis, and
leg and right foot fractured in various
places. After being hospitalized for
three months, she underwent a series
of operations.
Frida Kahlo made creation her
philosophy, in which she used art as a
catharsis mechanism for a life full of
fluctuating events. Exploring the
context of her time with a vision that
seemed always ahead of time, Frida
was a voice and image in art and
society, dedicated to the representation
of women in modernity and aiming to
elevate Mexican identity.
Her approach to painting was innate,
although she was no stranger to the
arts thanks to her father, Frida gave up
the desire to be a doctor, and
developed her skill in painting by
spending her days in the Blue House.
